Our four little people have had an insanely independent, BUSY day playing, which has resulted in THIS.
NO, it’s not ‘Pinterest worthy’ - but it’s our REAL, so thought it important to share as it’s easy sometimes to get caught up in other people’s ‘highlight reels’ - when our reality is that life with kids does NOT fit into a neat little square (and neither should it!!!)
PLAY GROUP INVITATIONS
This rainbow wall (made with leftover kids’ paintings!) is going to have to make a comeback in our Play Group room - it ALWAYS brightened my day! (Thanks again @teacher_types for the idea )
Every week I set up between 10 & 15 invitations for 1-4 year olds at our local Play Group - I’m going to start popping them in my feed to remind my 2 year old of all the things she got up to #MemoryMaker
Today all the invitations were based on the book ‘Dear Zoo’ #FaveAroundHere

I just ADORE everything about Play Groups - community, the opportunity to play and interact with other kiddos...soooo good for the development of social skills :) (plus a cheeky coffee with other mums is always a bonus too! )
Are you in love with your local play group?!
PLAY EVERY DAY
It’s so easy to get serious when we ‘grow up.’
It’s so easy to say to the kids ‘I’ll play with you later’ or ‘just a minute’ when there are dishes to pack away.
Or washing to fold.
Or other TOTALLY unglamorous (but necessary) jobs to be done. #Guilty♀️
Before I had kids of my own I swore black and blue that I would ALWAYS be playful and fun and NEVER growl. ♀️
(I also said that I would always be on top of the washing.) #KiddingMyself♀️ #AteSomeHumble🥧ForSure
OF COURSE we can’t play ALL day long, cranking out activity after activity with rainbows and unicorns floating around and our kids ALWAYS with big smiling faces.
That’s not real life.
BUT... I am making it MY life’s work to get more people playing.
Supporting those who *get* it and helping those who want to do more of it.
A strategy here, a strategy there.
5 mins here, 5 mins there.
Because I want to HELP.
Because these precious moments with little ones slip away sooo fast and I would have LOVED someone to have done the same for me.
Jump on my email list (link in bio) if you’d like to get playful: I’m obsessed with helping people connect with their kids, develop their skills and encourage independence through PLAY and have a couple more things I’ve been cranking out on that laptop I’d love to share with those interested #JoinPlaySquad
I came up with this little recipe for him as whenever we did any painting, he’d always get terrible flare ups because he could never resist using his own body as a canvas! This little concoction was such a good solution for us as he’d always walk away with skin that’s smooth instead of dry, cracked and bleeding :( I’ll be pulling this one out again soon for my Sensory Sessions - some highlights for today will be in my stories soon!
DISCLAIMER: I MADE THIS MESS
Last week we had a HUGE overhaul of the kids’ bedrooms.
Went through ALL their clothes (they’re seriously growing like weeds at the mo - nothing fits!!!).
Sorted ALL their toys and books.
Donated items they no longer play with.
Repurposed and recycled broken items.
Today I went through ALL their tubs, condensing, donating, reorganising and simplifying and this has already breathed new life into old toys / gear!!
Can’t wait to show you finished pics - I’m trying to talk myself into doing a ‘live’, if you’re keen for a live video tour let me know what time suits and I’ll do my best to make it happen!
Happy Tuesday lovelies!!
I don’t want to ever appear that mess doesn’t happen...because SPOILER ALERT - in our house, it DOES!! #PlayfulMessyAndReal
Here’s our end of the weekend reset: if only it was this quick..!
‘Remnants of play’ (aka mess) needs to be put away...and to take out the ‘nagging- Mum, whinging-child’, I always offer to help them for the first few minutes!! It’s organised chaos in here, everything is set up so they can be responsible for their own belongings. The #TeacherMum in me gets a little too excited with how much sorting and classification is involved in packing away (aka early numeracy skills )
How high is YOUR mess tolerance?? Mine is in the comments below..!
DIY SENSORY TABLES (train table hack) swipe to see both!
Tag a sensory-play lover who has a train table they could TRANSFORM!
For the past 18 months I have run Sensory Play sessions at our local Play Group for 1-2 year olds and 3-4 year olds. We picked these two train tables up second hand for FREE (PERFECT HEIGHT FOR KIDS) and we ‘hacked’ them to use for our sessions!
My amazing friend and colleague Emi cut the holes in (because I have #ZeroWoodWorkSkills), making them both different: 3 holes in one and 1 hole in the other to match with the containers we have already been using for Sensory Play!
I had a couple of rolls of wooden adhesive vinyl ($3 from @kmartaus!) which I used to cover up the much-loved wood, and it really gave it a totally new look and feel.
These have been sooooo fabulous at containing the mess due to the border around the outside (literally it has cut our clean up time!) and the large size allows heaps of kids to play at the same time. #BestEver#SuitsAllAges
