Tight hamstrings also affects the flexibility of your spine. People with tight hamstrings often end up rounding their backs a lot just to get their legs straight and that could cause more stress to the lower back.
If your hamstrings are tight, use blocks to assist your forward folds. (Think upper body in cobra pose, drawing your shoulders down your back.) I’ve been practising for so long and an injury to my left hamstring makes forward bends challenging, hence my spine is never straight straight! However, I try my best, never pushing it too far, backing off if I need to. In Yoga you don’t have to aim for perfection because the pursue for it will be never-ending. Aim for progress that can help your body feel and function better, because what it is about :)
