2018/12/24 Tokyo Fuji Art Museum, Hachiōji, Tokyo. Permanent Exhibition. "Western Paintings From the Renaissance to the 20th Century"
Cornelis de Heem "Still Life Painting with Fruits" 1665-70.
A still life painter of the Dutch Golden Age Painting. His father, Jan Davidszoon de Heem, is famous even now, but Cornellis's brother, nephew and son were all painters too. It was a big painter family like Bruegel. A citrus fruit dripping its juice, grape skins having uneven spots, grain feeling of a pomegranate... Its depiction is so realistic that it makes me feel even a little grotesque. And I felt the same feeling toward his another work "Still life with a Basket of Fruit" which is exhibited at National Museum of Western Art, Ueno.
