Day 3.

And it’s been a good one.
Lie in, dog walking, cycling, loving the local butcher, negotiated massage time, outside time and 25 mins on the cross trainer listening to the I Am Virago podcast from the very talented Janice Lichtenwaldt @aiccoaching
It’s not easy resisting the crisps, and I missed a glass of wine while watching (reruns) of The West Wing last night but... It’s just day by day... and the good choices today far outweigh the things I’ve missed.

Singing for Water 💦 Day 87/100. Rockin out with Tommy Transit in his amazing Pub Bus last weekend.

Here’s to all the wacko people, the odd ducks, the iconoclasts, the weirdos, and all who dance to a different drummer and who live and love life to the hilt.
🥁
Tommy T was an infamous Vancouver bus driver for 21 years, who made sure his ride was special for everyone.
🥁
Now he’s ‘retired’ on Galiano Island, bringing a big smile to folks on the Hummingbird Inn Pub Bus as it shakes, rattles and rolls from the marina up the hill to the pub about 5 miles away.
🥁
He hands out shakers and tambourines and maracas to everybody, plays his favorite tunes as he tells stories and wails on his drum kit mounted above the dash.

Best bus ride ever! Singing and laughing together!

The Art Walk was always a good show for me but stepping away from my biz a few years back for a steady paycheck + to help sell someone else’s dream really took a toll on my growth as a business owner. Today is day 22 of my #100dayproject

Day 22

Posting this picture isn’t easy for me. I did go out of my comfort zone again today. I took a bath. I didn’t feel like it…… But I took the time to straighten and dry my hair afterwards. I was actually shocked at how long it has gotten. I don’t think it’s been this long since I was 17 years old.
Posting selfies alone is something I’m not comfortable with. I’m trying to take years of feeling unworthy and ugly and fix that. That’s going to take time and lots of SELF LOVE in small increments.
I would like to tell you that I love my body and that I am 100% comfortable in my skin. I’m not going to lie. I’m not. But, truth be told, I probably wouldn’t be 100% comfortable no matter what I look like or what I weigh.
So, I’m just taking my time and trying to learn to love myself a little bit each day. I never had the best self-confidence. But, the incident the caused a lot of trauma made me even more loathing of myself.
I believed HIM.
It’s time to love and believe in ME!
Having a chronic illness doesn’t help. I always feel like I’m an extra weight or burden because I can’t work a traditional job at the moment. But, I’m trying to realize that my job is healing. I keep telling myself and hope that one day I will actually believe it enough to degrade myself.

Day 49 Challenge: Disconnect to Connect

Technology updates itself at a pace so rapid that it often leaves us breathless. We somehow end up losing the capacity to enjoy the present which carries within it the joy of discovering new horizons. The pursuit of pleasure is linear and quantitative. There will always be something more ‘attractive’ which will eventually ‘distract’ us from the present moment. The experience of joy on the other hand is qualitative.
Today we challenge you to stay away from gadgets for few hours. It could be your laptop, mobile phones, iPad, television, and all that which have become more attractive over time and are distracting you from spending qualitative time with your loved ones.

Today we invite you to use your time to disconnect from gadgets and connect with people who matter a lot to you. You will experience joy which is qualitative, enhancing and self fulfilling.

Day 48 Challenge: Paper boats

Want a great activity that involves people around you to few moments of fun and competition? Building paper boats is fun and provides you with an opportunity to be creative.
The art of folding of paper is called origami. This craft boosts our brain health. It helps to develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and mental concentration. Origami is used in various therapeutic settings. Physically our hands become active when we do intricate foldings of the paper. Its been found that the practice of origami releases anxiety.
Today we challenge you to make 3 or more different types of paper boats. If you don’t know how to make a paper boat, take this as an opportunity to learn a new craft. If you already know, can you see how many boats you can make in a minute and beat your own record in another minute. This activity will take you back to your childhood days. It helps to keep your mind young, active and rejuvenated.

We all use keys many different times during the day for different purposes. What are keys generally used for? To unlock something, isn’t it? We generally use keys only for a few seconds, isn’t it?
Today’s challenge is to be mindful of those few seconds. Whenever you use a key to unlock something - it could be a cupboard, door, vehicle, etc. Imagine that it is a magic key towards unlocking new opportunities and abundance into your life.
What all opportunities would you desire to magically open up for you? The possibilities are endless.
This mindful technique is the process which stops the mind from focusing on stress. Even if you are stressed, breaking the monotony and thinking of receiving something in abundance will break the mind’s thinking pattern.

How many times have you travelled abroad and after a few days or months stay, you have felt the deep longing to return to your own country?

Day 44 Challenge: Hydrate
Remember the elixir of life? One thing we all need even more than food is water.
Our brains need water to function effectively. Studies link depression to dehydration because 85% of brain tissue is water. Some studies show that water is a great “anxiety quencher”. When the body is dehydrated, it can actually induce anxiety and nervousness.
When you become dehydrated, water in your brain is depleted, and your brain physically shrinks. This compression of brain tissue is a common source of headaches. By making a conscious effort to drink plain water, you’ll be truly giving your brain a significant boost in capability.
It's generally not a good idea to use thirst alone as an indicator to drink water. By the time you become thirsty, it's possible that you're already dehydrated. As you get older your body’s capability to sense dehydration decreases.
It is found in studies that one glass of water is minimum required for every 10kgs of our weight. (If you are 50kgs in weight, minimum requirement is for you to drink 5 glasses of water). Today, we are challenging you to set reminders and drink sips of water many times. We invite you to hydrate yourself well. Your plan needs to focus on consistently hydrating. Drink more water to flush out stress from your body.

Are you bogged down with your mundane daily life? At times, routine activities can leave us with a sense of stagnation and boredom.
A date with nature pauses monotonous life. According to a study, spending time in nature rather than human-made environment has many positive effects like reducing stress, improving mood, enhanced cognitive performance, etc
Nature’s overwhelming colours and calmness, provides immediate effect, which no medicine can provide. You will feel emotionally better and physically stronger.
It is easy for us to forget that we too are a part of Mother Nature. It has been observed that people who are hospitalized recovered more quickly with a view of trees than with a view of a brick wall.
Today we challenge you to go on a date with nature. You can choose to walk barefoot in the grass or hug a tree or watch few birds chirp or try to catch a butterfly or observe different colours and textures of flowers and leaves.
Nature recharges our mental batteries. It has the healing energy incomparable to any other therapy. We just need to pause, observe, embrace and appreciate.

Day 41 Challenge: Read upside down
Reading upside down stimulates the brain. When you are reading a book or a paper upside down, it still makes sense. That’s because the power of the brain is to adapt the sensory information it receives and make it fit with what it already knows. Essentially, the brain takes the raw, inverted data and turns it into a coherent right side up image.
Choose a book or newspaper and engage yourself in reading it upside down for 10 minutes today.
Mastering the skill of reading upside down will help you master the skill of speed reading. It is about training the brain to recognize words and patterns faster. When learning to read, once we know what some particular words look like, we no longer actually 'read' them. We simply scan past them. It allows you to read normal material faster too. So, grab a book, flip it over and get reading today.
Increasing your capacity to do new things is one of the keys to de-stress. The mind plays a bigger part than the body in the fight against stress. Today’s challenge will help your brain to try something new.

Day 40 Challenge: Face your Sharks
The Japanese have always loved fresh fish. But the water close to Japan has not held many fish for decades. So to feed the Japanese population, fishing boats got bigger and went farther than ever. The return trip took more time and the fish were not fresh.
To solve this problem, the fish companies installed freezers on their boats. However, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and frozen fish and they did not like the taste of frozen fish.
So fishing companies installed fish tank. They would catch the fish and stuff them in the tank. After a little thrashing around, the fish were tired, dull, and lost their fresh-fish taste. The fishing industry faced an impending crisis. But today, they get fresh-tasting fish to Japan.
How did they manage? To keep the fish tasting fresh, the Japanese fishing companies still put the fish in the tanks but with a small shark. The fish are challenged and hence are constantly on the move. The challenge they face keeps them alive and fresh!
Basically in our lives, sharks are new challenges to keep us active. Today we invite you to recognize the challenges in your lives that are acting as sharks. Change your perspective about them as they are keeping you energized and they are helping you to use up your skills and resources.

Did you start your day with stretching your body? If not, we urge you to stretch your body now and then move on, to read today’s challenge.
Haven’t you noticed cats and dogs stretching their body many times in a day? Wondered why? Animals know that stretching release stress. They may not know why. But they know that it does help and they use it for that purpose.
Stretching muscles reduces tension and produces stress relief. Stretched muscles receive better circulation which encourage relaxation, clearer thinking and reduces mental tension. Stretching induces deeper breathing and thus, sends more oxygen to the body, releases endorphins that produce stress relief.
Today we challenge you to grab all chances possible to stretch your body. Instantly release the stress out of your body. The benefits are immediate, and the more you stretch, the better you will feel.

Day 38 Challenge: Are you building bridges or walls?
The words we choose in communicating with others make a big difference on how well we connect with the people in our life. Just a few simple words can either build bridges or build walls. Bridges keep the communication flowing easily and harmoniously. Walls create distance and disharmony.
When something goes wrong in any relationship, many of us have the habit of building a wall around us. In our mind, these walls protect us from the outside world. This is when loneliness starts creeping in and adds unwanted stress in our lives.
Instead of concealing ourselves behind such walls, let us work on breaking those walls. It takes courage to face our vulnerabilities - to truly apologize, to forgive and to move on. Bridges are built based on these strengths.
Today we challenge you to notice your words. Break the walls that is stressing you out. Build new bridges. It can start with a smile and a hello. Do it in person, not on smart phone which loses the interpersonal effect of being a REAL bridge.

When someone asks us, “How are you? How’s your mood today?!”, we usually answer by saying, “Fine!” or “ I’m good!”. In reality, many of us experience different emotions like joyful, happy, relaxed, content, energetic, motivated, sad, depressed, insecure, angry, anxious, etc., to name a few.
Emotions arise as a result of specific events or situations, while moods are background feelings that accompany us without any particular reason or cause. The tricky thing about moods is that they are transitory, and can come and go without warning, cause, or reason. Mood has a huge influence on the way we react.
Track your mood many times this week. We invite you to draw a picture similar to the one given below. You can add the date and time (if you want) next to each bulb.
By using a mood tracker, you get to monitor the patterns in your life and identify your mood fluctuations. Becoming clear on what your stressors are, will help you figure out a workable plan.
We challenge you to repeat this exercise often this week to understand your patterns and triggers. When you track your mood variations through a week, you can easily find ways to train your mind.

Your feelings about colours are often deeply personal and rooted in your own experience or culture. Color is an engaging and powerful form of communication.
Today, we challenge you to pick 3 colours.
Try to wear it, eat it, drink it and notice it everywhere. For example: if your choose red, you can eat an apple. If you choose yellow, drink mango milkshake. If you choose green, you can notice greenery. You can also choose to write in different coloured inks on coloured papers. Dream in colour, surround yourself in colour.

Flow activities are vital to our health, wellbeing and success. It could be dancing, reading, gardening, doing mimicry, drawing, cooking, running or whatever that makes your heart sing. They can also be work related activities such as coding, teaching or cleaning.

It is only natural that we sometimes cling on to a few people or certain memories as we experience life to its fullest.
Remember Linus from the “Peanuts” comic strip starring Charlie Brown. Linus always carries his dirty blanket with him. Everywhere he goes, the blanket goes, and it affects both Linus and his surroundings because it gets him dirty and it changes the environment as he passes through.
Similarly, some people carry around emotions that influence or change the present. If we carry around anxiety, fear or low self-worth (from the past), even when we are in situations where we can shine or feel good about ourselves, those emotions may change the emotional environment for us.
Today we challenge you to recognize and list down such situations or people you have been clinging on from the past, which are draining your energy. After recognizing, eliminate what drains you, free up your energy and create space for the new. You will enjoy the lighter load.
