On July 23, 1926, the most expensive single shot in silent-film history was filmed for The General. This was the shot in which a bridge previously sabotaged by Johnnie collapses under the weight of the Northern soldiers’ train. Three or four thousand local people had gathered on that hot summer day to witness what would be the single-most expensive shot of the silent era. $42,000 (over a half-million dollars in by 2010 standards) had been spent for the scene.

Charmaine! 1926.
I remember my papa playing this song from a young child and I played it for him when he no longer could due to Alzheimer's. Since 1926, four generations of my family have played (and sometimes sang!) this tune. It fills my heart and soul with love when I play this now, I miss my papa dearly and the times where he would tell me I was wonderful, even though it was full of mistakes! He had my back! What I find most incredible is for all those four generations, this one piece of music has sounded the same for 92 years, even with each of our own individual styles and tweaks for timing, tempo, and dynamics...it still remains true to its original essence. What a beautiful connection to share with my mummy, papa, and great grandmother. #music #art #piano #song #1926 #familyhistory #ancestors #history #papasgirl #missinghim #sharedmoments #generations
