"The Battle of Britpop", 1995.
An epic chart showdown that grasped the nation- Blur Vs Oasis: The race to #1!
The two bands, who began with mutual respect for one another, soon became embroiled in rivalry over the years as antagonisms between the bands increased.
Soon, the battle became as much about class and regional division as it did about the music, with Oasis representing the North and Blur representing the South.
Blur ultimately won, selling 274,000 singles to Oasis' 216,000 .
Oasis' second album, (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, released the same year, went on to become the third best selling album in British history. Their subsequent success lead members of the press to state in later years that 'Oasis may have lost the battle, but they won the war' ... ✊️
Alex James can be seen in Blur's TOTP Country House performance wearing an Oasis t-shirt - salt in the wound or a white flag?
Were you for Blur or Oasis?! (Being from the South and only 8 years old, I was Blur- Country House was catchy!)
