#DifferentDimension #1In68 - The first thermal polish that I feature here. I have tried another one that I purchased at The Indie Shop but I didn't manage to get a picture. This one comes from a grab bag from Different Dimension and I am so glad to have received it. It's beautiful and I kind of like the thermal thing. Plus I'm pretty sure is based on Autism Awareness so that's another plus. I did 3 coats here and topped with Glisten & Glow top coat.

Happy Wondering Wednesday families!!
This month we are addressing several myths about individuals with Autism. Here is one: Those with "high-functioning" Autism (aka Asperger's syndrome) struggle less than those who are more impacted.
From my research and experience, I would say that the "struggle is still real". However, for those with higher functioning levels, the struggle looks different. Because they do not demonstrate obvious outward signs of challenge, people may have high expectations that these individuals cannot meet. This is especially true in the areas of social interaction and working with others.

As a result, individuals with high-functioning Autism often become misunderstood, misdiagnosed and isolated.
Let's hear your thoughts parents...and let's keep wondering πŸ’™

Wondering Wednesday!!
This month we are attempting to dispel myths about Autism and hope to offer education, awareness and acceptance.

There is a myth that all individuals with Autism have a special gift, a savant-like quality. Maybe phenomenal piano skills or the ability to memorize maps instantly. Here is what research suggests:

Only 10% of individuals with Autism have some savant abilities. However, these abilities range from β€œsplinter skills” to savant skills so superb that they would be remarkable even if present in "neuro-typical" people.
What are your thoughts families? Let's keep wondering πŸ’™

✨ 1 in 59 children in the United States have Autism. Today I walked for one of those children who I love and adore. This particular little boy has taught me more than I have taught him in the past 6 years of knowing him. He has taught me love, laughter, fun, patience, perseverance and never giving up. Just because someone has a disability and is different does not mean they aren’t here to teach us something... actually I believe it’s the opposite. Autism may be hard and heavy but autistic people are also beautiful with some of the most beautiful souls and hearts!

This month we will debunk several myths about individuals with Autism, hoping to spread more education, awareness and acceptance πŸ’™

Myth #1: Do children with Autism like to engage with others? The answer is yes. The amount and quality of their engagement may be different. However, I believe that we are all wired with an interest in social interaction to some degree 😊

Any thoughts families???

Happy Wondering Wednesday Families!!
Do you have a child with special needs who is minimally verbal? Does your child use a communication device, like an iPad, big mack or Dynavox?
Here are 2 tips for helping expand their communication skills using their device...
1. They can use their device to comment on activities. After a cooking activity or game, they could indicate if they liked it, didn't like it or would love to try it again.
2. At school, they could use their device to respond to the morning attendance call. Or, they could indicate who is present or absent.
There are so many options...Please share your tips families so that we can learn together πŸ’™

Happy Wondering Wednesday families!!
Wondering how to help your teen or tween build better communication skills?

1. Become critics: Try watching a TV show or movie together and talk about what makes a good character or actor or writer.
2. For teens and tweens with social challenges, try video modeling or social scripts to help them understand and use more expected social behaviors.
Let's keep wondering families πŸ’™

When your kiddo with Autism is anxious about "leaving the weekend" and going back to school on a Monday... Does your child get anxious about changes to the routine, even known changes? Mine, too πŸ˜‰. One morning, I quickly created for her this super short social story. It gave her something else to think about. Visual (written) supports help more than continuing to talk to our kids in these situations. Pictures or written words do a better job of "interrupting" the script of anxiety going on in their mind. Hope this is helpful families πŸ’™

Ready to talk IEPs! Let's chat parents in La Mesa. Our meeting is this morning from 10-12pm and only $5. Come with questions, leave empowered πŸ˜ŠπŸ’™

Monday Motivation!!
"Your greatest contribution may not be something you do, but someone you raise" ~ Dr.Laura.com

This week we will talk about helping our tweens and teens build better communication skills. In this tech-heavy world that we live in, communication seems like a lost art. However, as we build these skills with our children, we prepare them well for their future.
