Malawi, which is also referred to as the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’, is rapidly emerging as an exciting wildlife tourism destination. Breathtaking scenic landscapes, wildlife on the rise and home to one of the largest elephant translocations in history – Malawi is at the forefront of responsible safari destinations which is helping to generate needed revenue to help support the parks and local communities. We’ve seen this over and over again, that where wildlife thrives, people thrive. Of the three parks under our management in Malawi, Nkhkotakota Wildlife Reserve is the next park which is poised to become a premier elephant sanctuary – especially after the translocation of 520 elephants and more than 1,500 plains game animals which we completed in August of this year. For those who would like to visit Nkhotakota to experience this story of restoration first hand, @tongolewl is the place to stay! The lodge is perfectly situated, overlooking the Bua River and was in the spotlight at the 2018 Safari Awards which was recently held at the World Travel Market in London. Tongole Wilderness Lodge received THREE ‘Best in Africa’ awards: Best Community Focused Safari property in Africa, Best Ecologically Responsible Safari property in Africa, and the Best Value Safari property in Africa. Repost from @africanparksnetwork Our remarkable Rangers in Liwonde National Park have made enormous strides in the building and making up of a formidable counter-poaching team. A pioneering partnership with the British Military recently reinforced these efforts, building on Rangers’ skills during a 12-week training programme to support the long-term protection of the park and its wildlife. In two years of managing Liwonde in partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife, we’ve held six different training courses for 166 rangers from across the parks under our management, and the dedication of the Liwonde Rangers has resulted in the recovery of 26,000 wire snares in Liwonde alone, and dramatically reduced poaching and human-wildlife conflict in that park. Upside down: Today was a sad day for African elephants as the U.S. lifted the ban on importing elephant “trophies” into the country. This image shows a tranquilized elephant getting moved by @africanparksnetwork to safer regions last summer in effort to protect them during a historic conservation effort. I fear today’s news will enable a flood of images of dead “trophy” elephants getting moved to people’s living rooms instead. While many argue hunting can help pay for conservation, corruption has paved the way for widespread declines in elephant populations. #elephants #africa #conservation #500elephants #malawi

Hunting pays for conservation? Not always. Not when governments who are selling their wildlife are wildly corrupt and have no intention on using the fees for conservations efforts— simply to line their own pockets. This is selfishness pure and simple— that includes each and every hunter who participates in these hunts. Not to mention the fact that elephants are wildly smart, incredibly emotional and social animals who deserve the right to live their lives free of human greed and violence. #Repost @pedromcbride (@get_repost)

“An estimated 100 African elephants are killed each day by poachers seeking ivory, meat and body parts, leaving only 400,000 remaining. An insatiable lust for ivory products in the Asian market makes the illegal ivory trade extremely profitable, and has led to the slaughter of tens of thousands of African elephants.”
~World Elephant Day | After considering the successes of the USFWS efforts in wildlife management, it’s amazing that the US government is comparing management of the likes of coyotes, white-tail deer and others to the African elephant! Huge difference in habitat & food needs, as well as man-made pressures like adapting to the rate of habit loss and poaching. An African elephant cannot successful adapt to urban encroachment like a coyote or deer can. This coupled with the unfortunate nature of corruption within some African governments hampering conservation and enforcement efforts. Cheers to those actually doing the good for conservation, but damned to those facilitating continued corruption and recreation for rich boys at the expense of the African elephant and other animal species in peril. | Cheers to the likes of you @pedromcbride | Repost @pedromcbride (@get_repost)

Days like today reminds us how difficult it is to fight for the environment, when countries like the United States take decisions that are counter productive to the cause. Read more in the post on how today's decision will negatively impact our already endangered Elephant populations. #Repost from @pedromcbride

Trump has just lifted a ban on importing elephant trophies to the United States 🐘 Because every day brings a fresh crisis in this Administration, lifting the ban may seem like a small thing, but it's a devastating and senseless development to conservation and fighting poachers 😔 Please repost 🐘💘 #elephantconservation #500elephants @r.e.s.c.u.e @pedromcbride @amivitale @elephant_mylove @africanparksnetwork #bekindtoelephants

Africa Parks moved 500 elephants to Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve to repopulate the park after it was devastated by poaching. This elephant has a young calf - more than 30 have been born since the animals were bought here in lorries, a sign they are happy and well adjusted - and has broken away from her herd (taking another young elephant with her) to become the matriarch of a new family group. She’s independent, caring and as my mum pointed out - a tear away. Until now the elephants just had numbers. But I persuaded the park rangers she should be called Ellie - and they agreed!!!! I’m totally in love! ❤️🐘🐘🐘❤️ #500elephants #africaparks #malawi
