Song: @mariannefaithfullofficial - “Guilt”
Album: Broken English
Background: A sought-after chanteuse out of the London scene during the 1960s, Marianne Faithfull is widely known for her romantic involvement with Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones, but her career as a singer-songwriter is robust and worth its own recognition. After splitting up with Jagger and losing custody of her son in 1970, Faithfull’s career spiraled due to drug addiction, homelessness and other problematic health issues. Her first major release since 1967, “Broken English” would prove to be Faithfull’s defining work - an enigmatic collection of new wave rock songs that incorporated elements of blues, punk and reggae. It has since been heralded a classic and one of the defining works of the ‘70s.
