My “Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse” Review [SPOILERS]
Let me preface this by saying that I loved ITSV. It is now my second favorite Spider-Man movie. I believe it was leaps and bounds better than Homecoming. (Homecoming is my least favorite Spider-Man movie and Holland is my least favorite Spiser-Man)
This is the Spider-Man movie Spider-Man fans deserve. This movie was a love letter to the fans. I have been waiting to see Ultimate Spider-Man or just a Bendis’ influenced story on the big screen since 2006. And since the trailer dropped last year, I have been waiting over a year for this movie. That’s a year of hype being built up and somehow it delivered on my expectations.
I honestly think that the best Spider-Men are animated. Spectacular Spider-Man and Into the Spiderverse are Spider-Man. It’s not voice actors playing a part; it feels like the comic books come to life. I have always felt the one liners and quips that Tobey, Andrew, and Tom gave felt stilted, forced. But all the quips in this movie felt natural. Stuff the actual 616 or 1610 would say. I loved all the Peter Parker’s in this movie and Miles. Everybody said Tom Holland was like the Ultimate Spider-Man, but I never saw it. Ultimate Spider-Man was more self aware and smarter and didn’t act nearly as much of dork as Tom does. Andrew acted more like Ultimate Spider-Man. And this incarnation of both Peter and Miles nailed the Ultimate Universe. Miles was little bit more mature in the comics, but I think for the tone they were going for it fits.
Spider-Man is supposed to be relatable. Personally, I related a lot to Andrew and Tobey was what i strived for. Tom...I don’t really feel any connection to him. But oh my gosh, Gwen, Miles, Peter. It’s like they were my actual friends. Real people, real personalities. There is a particular scene towards the middle where Peter narrates his life and I was like...same. Miles and Peter in this movie were true Spider-Men. (Continued in the comments)
