Repost from @natgeotravel
Photo by @FransLanting Look at this black rhino calf—frisky and curious, ears pointing my way as I watch its mother laboriously raising herself. Only one of her ears is pointing in my direction. The other one is checking what is happening behind her. Rhinos rely on their sharp sense of hearing and an acute sense of smell to make up for not seeing very well.
In Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater, they’re relatively protected, but that is not the case for most rhinos elsewhere in Africa and Asia. They’ve been hammered by poachers, and it’s more important than ever to draw attention to their plight, and to the people and organizations that are trying to turn things around, including the World Wildlife Fund, Save the Rhino, and WildAid. Help them help rhinos survive and spread the word on September 22 which is World Rhino Day.
