They may look different,
they may sound sane,
They are the women of India,
their smiles are louder than their pain.
They’ll herd their sheep and plough their fields,
raise their children yet never believe,
that they’re more than just women, they’re the avatars of God,
they’re more than the love they receive.
But it happened so,
once upon a time,
In the village of Bhengari,
When man’s greed took over a land,
that belonged to the Adivasis and their clan,
Stepped in Pavitri to file formal complaints,
but was let down by political profane.
There was harassment, intimidation & forest fires,
but no one responsible to bring justice in fair trials.
Her voice was heard all over the forests,
Of how two companies were nothing but dishonest
They fabricated a case against her son,
In hopes that she would give up & run.
But Pavitri was Pavitri,
She stood there like a tree,
Got 99 more people,
to sign against the companies’ victory.
Her life was in danger, still is in 2018,
No threats will shake her until she is redeemed.
Hence, we’ll help a fellow woman of our nation today,
In solidarity we’ll stand & await,
A rise of a movement or maybe a grenade
Against the system where bribery still prevails. 🙏🏻
Pavitri Manjhi has been on the frontline of protesting against two private companies who allegedly defrauded indigenous Adivasis of their land, when developing a thermal power plant from 2009 to 2011, and a biomass power plant in 2004 and 2007. The villagers were coerced into selling their land to agents acting on behalf of the companies & their consent was neither free nor informed. She has faced threats by men acting on behalf of the private thermal company since 2015. Also, her son is facing criminal charges for what is believed to be a fabricated case initiated to deter her from continuing her campaign. Currently on bail, the case against him has been pending since 2015.
It’s time to spread awareness of the same for which we need to increase the number of digital signatures. Please hit the link in bio. It’ll only take a minute to support Pavitri & her cause. Who knows, it might just help.💛
