Creature Aurora Over Norway- It was Halloween and the sky looked like a creature. Exactly which creature, the astrophotographer was unsure but (possibly you can suggest one).

Here’s our best shot at constellations. It’s harder than it looks 😂. With the exception of Orion, I can’t pick a constellation out of the sky to save my life....not even the Big Dipper😩. The only reason I can find Orion is because I know the belt and I know where it’s located in the sky from our house, based off of past experience 😆. The struggle is real. #homeschool

"Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science." .
- On this day in 1889 the great American astronomer Edwin Hubble was born in Marshfield, Missouri. Considered one of the founders of extragalactic astronomy, his investigations led to the now-standard classification system of galaxies, as well as the accepted distances and velocities of galaxies. In 1929 Hubble published the velocity-distance relation which is the basis of modern cosmology. He died of cerebral thrombosis in San Marino, California in 1953. No funeral was held and his wife never revealed his burial site. Extra credit to my CW scientists and CW Robotics Crew: At which observatory did Hubble spend most of his career and make his important discoveries? Who was the world-famous astronomer who was director of that observatory? #astronomy #astronomers #space #science #history

Triangulum Galaxy M33
Full Resolution: https://www.astrobin.com/full/377751/0/?nc=user

The Triangulum Galaxy is a spiral galaxy approximately 3 million light-years (ly) from Earth in the constellation Triangulum. It is catalogued as Messier 33 or NGC 598. The Triangulum Galaxy is the third-largest member of the Local Group of galaxies, behind the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy. It is one of the most distant permanent objects that can be viewed with the naked eye.

The brightest galaxy known is the dying #HotDOGgalaxy (main pic). This large galaxy, being consumed by #LargeBlackHole, draws in 3 smaller galactic neighbors.
Theorists say, at the end of (our) time, #BlackHoles will gobble up the last #MatterAndEnergy. Thus, the symbolic abandoned train station (top right).
#Astronomers observe vast, invisible #InterstellarDust clouds called dark matter and energy. This dust, estimated to be 93% of the mass of the universe, blocks visible light.
Did the big bang explode into a vacuum? Was #DarkMatter already there?
#Bosons bind #fermions to electrons (creating matter). Bosons exert both the #StrongForce and the #WeakForce, gravity (itself a bi-product of the strong force).
In black holes, bosons are crushed and exhausted. Black holes then fall apart, depositing depleted "dark matter."
What about #AntiMatter? Til now, theorists ASSUMED matter dominated and eliminated an equal amount of antimatter. Could they be wrong? Could antimatter be dominant?
Matter and antimatter can't co-exist? Even in the vacuum of space?
We may be looking out from a matter bubble into a matter/antimatter cosmos.
Wavelength detectors of any type (telescopes, etc) record heat/light signatures. Any antimatter particles (energies) would be annihilated long before they reach us. Ergo: invisible.
Which idea is right? Is dark matter depleted matter from dead black holes? Or, is it antimatter that we can't see directly? If both ideas are right, thank me twice.

This week we learn all about the women who helped map the stars. The Harvard Computers were instrumental in mapping the universe as we know it today and several of the techniques they developed are still in use today. Listen now!

ESO Picture of the Week: This colourful image shows a part of the #Rosette Nebula in the #constellation of Monoceros (The #Unicorn). It is an emission #nebula, composed of clouds of gas that are made to glow by the radiation emanating from #stars within. The Rosette Nebula is a fairly typical example of an emission nebula — but typical does not mean boring! Nebulae are some of the most beautiful #celestial objects out there, and they frequently show up spectacularly in images taken by astronomical telescopes, as seen here. The image was obtained with the FORS 2 instrument on ESO's Very Large Telescope. FORS 2 is an extremely versatile instrument that can produce very high-quality images (like this one!). It is also a spectrograph that can split the light it collects into a #rainbow of #colours, giving #astronomers information about the chemical composition of objects across the #Universe. Chile 3,999km roadtrip - camping and hiking national parks 🇨🇱🇧🇪😊
Episode 4:
As you now Chile has the clearest sky 🌠💫 for explore the space and the universe, it is the Astronomer's paradise 🔭🔭🔭
We drove 8 hours, 630km from Santiago to La Silla Observatory near the border with Atacama Region, it is an astronomical observatory in Chile 🇨🇱 with three telescopes built and operated by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) We hiked by car to 2,400m asl and visited 3 telescopes there, the modern one that is reaching the sky every night 🌙 and astronomers from differents nationalities uses it every day, the old one from like 50 years ago it is now used as an exoplanet 🌏 search telescope! It is very big and it is the classic telescope you can see from the outside 🍄 and the third one is the biggest radiotelescope 📻🔭 in South America. More radiotelescopes are located in ALMA, another observatory in the North of Chile. We visited the astronomers 👨‍🚀 & telescope operators offices and was pretty cool, but astronomers and operators are very shy haha 😜 Every telescope is used for differents purposes and objectives ☄

Was a great day and experience! 🛰 We were so lucky that day some astronomer wanted to install a new camera in the modern telescope so a lot of pieces were open and usually that never happend only for maintence or to put cameras. In general inside the buildings were the telescopes are the temperature is very cold ❄️ due outside it is very hot and by the night the temperature decreases a lot in the desert 🌵 specially for the altitud they are it is super windy also 🌬, so they don't want to have a big change of temperature when they open the gates. 30% of the observatory uses solar energy ☀️ due they have their own fotovoltaic field ⚡️, yes Chile has a lot of fotovoltaic fields now.

Then we came back to Coquimbo driving for 200km more of fun to visit my friend Tracy from United States 🇺🇸 who lives there for a while and now is a coquimbana girl 😂

Happy Monday! Have a good week!! 😊
