We walked down a new road together. We’d both been moving towards this individually, and today, we merged. How meaningful it was to facilitate a meditation workshop with @dudukwhisperer ‘s musical accompaniment. He in his element, and I in mine. His voice and duduk emerged ever so unassumingly, though within moments, allowed us to sink deeper into our sitting. Different parts of my life came together and made me feel whole and joyfully alive. Social justice and Martin Luther King, Jr., meditation and teaching. The various threads of my experiences woven together in a tapestry I’m, in part, a creator of and in part, its humble witness.
At @laneycollege this afternoon, MLK breathed again through our practice. In the hearts of students who are reviving the Poor People’s Campaign and in the hearts of those who honor what he stood for, his teachings came to life. We sat and breathed together. We carved out the inner space for acceptance and love. How simple and how radical.
MLK used to say that the ultimate goal was the creation of a Beloved Community, a society based on reconciliation and love, one in which the “right relationships” are key. Given the success of the nonviolent movement in Armenia in the last month and the deplorable state of affairs in the U.S., these “right relationships” are ever more necessary. And so much of this starts with “right relationship” with ourselves.
I will sit more and love more. I hope this is the first of many, Khatch. #meditation #yoga #love #meditationforall #sit #meditationmusic #duduk #armenian #martinlutherkingjr #nonviolence #belovedcommunity #college #studentlife #meditationworkshop #lovetoteach #lovetolearn #explorelove #explorewithin #umoja #poorpeoplescampaign #activism #socialjustice #armenia #velvetrevolution
