Photo by@FransLanting Cheetahs are the most vulnerable of the world’s big cats, with cub mortality as high as 95 percent, often due to predation by lions and hyenas. But studies have shown that a small number of cheetah females are so good at raising cubs that we can call them “supermoms.” Here in the grasslands of Kenya’s Maasai Mara one remarkable supermom scans the horizon for trouble with a cub next to her. Today is International Cheetah Day and we’d like to give a shout out to the individuals and organizations who are working to safeguard a future for these amazing cats and hope that you will support them too. Thanks to NatGeo’s Big Cat Initiative, Laurie Marker and her Namibia-based Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF), Rebecca Klein and the Cheetah Conservation Botswana project (CCB) and Panthera. Follow me @FransLanting for more images of cheetahs and other inhabitants of Wild Africa.

Laila (T41) - The Gorgeous Lady of Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, India. These animals are vital to the ecosystem. Taking one of the support beams from a building will cause the building to collapse; the same happens with the ecosystem. Top-level predators are necessary to have a healthy ecosystem. Let's all work together to help save these beautiful creatures. Twin Beauties

Loveliness doubled. Beauty magnified.

Cheetahs are such incredibly beautiful creatures, it was an awesome experience to observe them living life in the wild as the sun sets down behind them in Masai Mara of Kenya. For a minute it looked like the jungle was on fire behind them.

As the sun was about to set in Masai Mara of Kenya, this male lion sat in all his glory posing majestically. It is no wonder he has been named king of the jungle.

Photo by @FransLanting Adorable, but vulnerable, three cheetah cubs watch their mother hunt in the Serengeti Plains, a few weeks after they first emerged from a den inside the rocks where they spent their first month hiding from predators like lions, hyenas and leopards. More than half of all cheetah cubs do not survive the first four weeks of life and most of the rest do not make it beyond their first year. Cheetahs can’t climb trees like leopards, they can’t dig burrows like hyenas, and they’re not social like lions, so they are vulnerable no matter where they are.Follow me @FransLanting and @ChristineEckstrom for more images of cheetahs and other inhabitants of Wild Africa. #Cheetah #BigCats #BigCatsInitiative #Endangered

REFRESHING REFLECTION MIRRORING MAJESTY
The cool waters lower the temperature of my mind as well as of my body. In the clear glass-like water I see my soul mirrored back to me. I am elevated to new heights of understanding, comprehension and majesty. Simply by the cool dip in the clear pond. Briefly, I see Heaven above and Earth below reflected in my image. I rejoice in the glory of both Worlds.

What a moment it was when we saw this beautiful, magnificent tiger queen relaxing from the heat of the day in a quiet pool in Corbett National Park, India. Unlike many other felines tigers seem to like the water and can often be seen cooling off in pools or streams of water on hot days to refresh themselves and to get relief from the scorching heat. During the dry season they make most of their kills near water holes to have easy accessibility to water after having food. A waterhole count is a traditional wildlife monitoring method which is still being used by parks across India. Water is so crucial for us all.

Definitely can't go to the grocery store.. 😀😀 Regrann from @nitish.madan - BUILT FOR THE KILL | Though it is heart wrenching to see the light go out of deer’s eyes but a Tiger can’t go to the grocery store to buy food for her cubs. This really demonstrate how hard animals work in the struggle for life and death in the Jungle, she has got to work so hard to keep herself fit and to keep her cubs fit. They are apex predators and natural born killers no matter how cute they look when relaxing, they are hunters and they eat meat, that’s the reality of life and the real raw side that exists in the wild. Majestic Hunter! Ultimate Feline! King Of The Jungle! #WorldLionDay is celebrated to raise awareness and pay tribute to the beast. This day was found by Big Cat Rescue, which is the world's largest accredited sanctuary dedicated to the big cats. Staring straight into the amber eyes of a lion will always awaken a part of me that knows instinctively that I'm not the true predator here and yet people's amazing abilities with tools and intelligence has made our species stronger by far and we're not out-competing every other creator on the planet. Lions are the iconic, strong, proud and symbols of power all over the world, but there are more statues of lions in the world, rather than real lions. About 20,000 remaining, scattered in ever small patches of wilderness. It's worth noting that this #WorldLionDay but also noting that we've the ability to halt and reverse it, when we put our mind to it.

Happy 🦁💕#WorldLionDay! #081018
Just in case you haven’t heard, friends, our most iconic of all sentient beings are drastically decreasing in numbers due to irresponsible human contact and impact of their natural habitat, canned hunting and poaching. Approximately 20,000 lions left in the wild. Please, let that number sink in for just a second. ONLY 20,000 LIONS LEFT. Not just today for World Lion Day, but every single day from this day forward, show them compassion and love, share the knowledge with your friends and family beginning by spreading the awareness necessary with our next generation, our next leaders and inhabitants of the world, our children. Show them by example . This is key. We really must behave and act consciously towards living things, now, if we want our kids to do the same, or we risk all life preservation, be it on land, sea, or air. Say NO to irresponsible tourism and travel. SAY YES TO PRESERVING ALL LIFE, IN ALL WAYS, ALWAYS.

It's worth noting this decline this #WorldLionDay but also noting that we have the ability to halt and reverse it when we put our minds to it. Nine years ago, together with @dereckjoubert, and National Geographic, we set up the Big Cats Initiative as a long-term effort to halt the declineof big cats in the wild. The initiative supports efforts to save big cats through assessment, on-the-ground conservation, education, and global public-awareness campaigns. To date, this has supported more than 110 innovative projects in 28 countries that are helping big cats and communities thrive - all working to keep these wild eyes alight across Africa, ready to pierce our souls with the truth about who we really are. This is my favorite animal in the world. Gorgeous, iconic, powerful creatures. I just read that there are more statues of lions now than real lions. Only around 20,000 remain. They deserve to continue living in this life, just like us. #BigCatsInitiative was created to halt the decline of big cats in the wild. HAPPY NATIONAL LION DAY! It is a dream of mine to visit Africa. Hopefully I will get to experience these big cats in my lifetime. Before they disappear. Less than 20,000 of these beautiful big cats remain in the wild. In sparse often secluded sections of what is left of their habitat. At a time when we are most informed about such beautiful animals. Why are we not helping?! Take a look and learn more. Natgeo-bigcats.org is a great place to start. #bigcatsinitiative 🦁 —————Photo credits to @valgruener one of my biggest inspirations and a true hero! Her name is Sirga (Lioness in the picture) @valgruener has raised her since a cub. At a time when tensions in Africa between big cats and farmers are at their greatest. (Documentary on NetFlix! Check it out Saving Sirga.)

Today is World Lion Day! 🦁 🌍 These beautiful animals are on their way to extinction and today is all about raising awareness for conservation of these magnificent creatures ❤️ This guy is one of my favorites - for any version ordered (any color, any size) this weekend we will donate 15% to @ewasolions , an organization working in Kenya where there are only 2000 lions left in the wild 🦁🦁

The Lion. Iconic, symbols of strength, pride, and power. Yet, only 20,000 remain. Dispersed to ever more compact patches of wilderness as their natural environment gets smaller and smaller. Africa’s Lion population has declined 90% in the last 75 years. Big cats worldwide are under threat. For many populations, local extinctions are imminent due to habitat loss, degradation, and conflicts with humans. It is for this reason that conservation awareness is essential in curbing the decline of the world’s big cat populations. To learn more about the issue and how you can help check out: natgeo.org/bigcats. #worldlionday #bigcatconservation #lion #kingofbeasts #bigcatsinitiative #conservation

Staring straight into the amber eyes of a lion will always awaken a part of me that knows instinctively that I am not the true predator here. And yet - people's amazing ability with tools and intelligence has made our species stronger by far and we are outcompeting every other predator on the planet. Lions are iconic - strong and proud and symbols of power throughout the
world. But there are now more statues of lions in the world than there are real lions. Only around 20 000 remain, scattered in ever-smaller patches of wilderness. It's worth noting this decline this #WorldLionDay but also noting that we have the ability to halt and reverse it when we put our minds to it. Nine years ago, together with @dereckjoubert, and National Geographic, we set up the Big Cats Initiative as a long-term effort to halt the decline of big cats in the wild. Happy World Lion Day! Did you see our last post? If so you would know that our wild cousins need our help! 90% of the world's lions have disappeared in the last 50 years. We're down to only around 20,000 individuals left. The threats to these remaining populations are still huge but there is a lot happening by many very dedicated people who are determined to keep these big cats roaring into the future. Support big cats this #WorldLionDay through the #BigCatsInitiative or #GreatPlainsFoundation.
