On May 21, Mayor Rod Frank of Strathcona County made a proclamation regarding Pride Week at council chamber. The county has paired with altView to schedule events for the week.
“June is internationally recognized as Pride Month in recognition of the Stonewall Riots, which spurred the modern push for LGBTQ2S+ civil rights,” Mayor Rod Frank proclaimed in council.
🌈 “This June will be the 50 anniversary of not just the Stonewall riots, but also passing of Bill C-150 on May 4, 1969, which decriminalized homosexuality and was a definitive turning point for LGBTQ2S+ Canadians.”
“An essential component of the Strathcona County’s social framework is that our residents feel safe and have a sense of belonging and the celebration of Pride aligns perfectly with those ideals,” explained Frank. “I hereby proclaim May 27 to June 2, 2019 as Pride Week in Strathcona County.”
