My body is still adjusting to squatting 3x a week so I'm a bit sore each time I squat. This is 5 lbs up from last week which I'm really happy about. Having said that, thee squats weren't as deep as I'd like so I'll probably wait a couple weeks before I move onto 245.
It's crucial that you can properly lift the weight with perfect form before you add more weight or else your form will get worse over time. If I go to 245 my next workout to feed my ego, I'll definitely fail to squat 245 lbs to full depth so my "progress" is me cheating the range of motion. This is a great exercise for tricep mass. ⠀

Movement Cues:
- Sit and grasp a dumbbell, holding it behind your neck, elbows bent.
- Inhale and extend the forearms putting the dumbbell above your head.
- Exhale and control the dumbbell back down to the starting position. ⠀

The vertical position of the arms strongly stretches the long head of the tricep brachii which puts emphasis on the contraction while working. ⠀

Trainers Tip:
- Contract your core to help prevent arching in the lower back. If possible, use a bench with support for the lower back.
- Add a one second pause at the bottom and top of the movement to ensure you are isolating the use of the tricep. ⠀

- Triceps brachia (Lateral, Long, and Medial head)

Exercise 1: plate loaded lat-pull down (if you don’t have this, go heavy on machine lat-pull downs) - 4 x 10, first set warm up, last set dropset
Exercise 2: smith machine (shock) bent-over rows - 4 x 10, jump straight into heavy sets, you should be warm by now. If your form starts to slack, stand more upright to finish your set of 10 reps, NO LESS!
Exercise 3: supinated grip lat pull downs, focus on driving the chest up and through as you pull the weight down, 3 sets to failure, increase the weight each time
Exercise 4: rack-pulls, find a step or exercise box to increase the range of motion. Focus on pulling through with the lats as well as lower back engagement

At the risk of being perceived as vain, I am posting this picture because I am very proud of my progress over the last 12 weeks. I’ve been working out a long time now, however, over the past couple years due to so many life changes (e.g., moving, baby, house, career changes) I have not made my #health a #priority. I’ve always believed if something is important enough, you will make (not find) the time to fit it in so that’s what I did. Most mornings I get up at 4:30 to hit the #gym by 5:30 am so I can be at work by 7:30.
I’ve been heavily into #fitness for about a decade now and have done #bodybuilding / bro lifts, boot camps, #Crossfit, marathon training, and many things in between. This time around I did @mindpumpmedia 's MAPS Anabolic workout routine and was blown away by my results and how effective it was! No other #workout routine I’ve followed has given me these kinds of results in such a short period of time. It went against most of the #broscience I’ve learned over the years which initially made me skeptical but now I am a believer.

My starting weight was 187 lbs. and this morning I weighed in at 186 lbs. That might not sound impressive, however, my metabolism, muscle mass, and lifts all increased and my body fat decreased! For me, that is a huge win!

I plan on doing at least one more round of the program and will be sure to share before and after pics this time.

Accepting that you do not know everything is key to progressing your knowledge, and therefore any aspect of life.

There is a lot of information surrounding health and fitness. In order to understand the various aspect of training and its benefits you must be knowledgeable in biology and physics.
It sounds kind of boring (for most people at least - but I'm a nerd 🤓), but they are the principle subjects that surround everything that we do in and out of the gym. Unfortunately, not enough people pay attention to this, and this is where they continue to perform the wrong technique, ignore advice, and do not think for themselves.

Ultimately this knowledge is the basis of the qualifications to become a fitness professional, and even then, this just begins to scratch the surface. Years of experience and research then grow on top of these building blocks, deepening the expertise of the trainers.
Now like any professional in their field, you would not question their judgement, right?
You would believe your doctor without a seconds thought, so why not your trainer?
To an extent it is true, they are professionals who clearly specialise in this. However, do not be afraid to question it. A good trainer should be able to answer why you are doing something or why it needs to change. If they can, you should probably listen, they are doing this for a living after all.
(It also means that your favourite gymshark model may not be the ideal person to listen to for advice on training.) At the end of the day, advice is free, you don't necessarily have to follow it, but at least listen and consider it. Most of the time, a trainer is just trying to do their job, and stop you from causing yourself injuries whether it be immediate or in the long run.
Just consider that the rumours you have heard may not be backed up by science. And training is all about the science.

So I’m going to sit my 🍑 right here in this tub and soak my muscles. 10 weeks ago I believed that the only way to get results was to kill myself 6 days a week - 3 gym sessions and 3 HIITs. Shoulder Day 👊
After doing heavy sets of shoulder press with the barbell (because you should NEVER skip shoulder press on shoulder day 😉), do 4 Rally’s of this!
5x5x5x5 - Dumbbell neutral press, normal press, Arnold press and then finish with side raises. This will test how hard you work and pushes you to the limit! Use the appropriate amount of weight to where you can just barely finish out the entire Rally 4 times. Take as long of a break in between sets as you need, but once you start the Rally, do not stop!!! You will see the results, so keep working hard!

To anyone who may be curious this is what I eat on a daily basis for building muscle and fat loss.
Sources of lean protein include:
-Eggs/egg whites
-Chicken breast
-Tilapia/salmon -Greek yogurt (plain unflavored)
-Whey supplement
Sources of carbs include:
-Oatmeal (plain unflavored)
-Sweet potato
-Brown rice
-Blueberries/raspberries
-All veggies (my go to's are asparagus and broccoli)
Sources of fats include:
-Avocado
-Almond butter
-Omega 3 supplement (along with "incidental" fats from the fish and occasional red meat)

The hot sauce has been my go to for flavor, it's a life saver 😉 I aim to eat every 3 hours or so because I hate going hungry. I dont eat cheat meals. Rinse and repeat!

Skepticism...I endorse it and don’t blame you if you live by it.
I’m always interested to hear about others’ experiences in the world of health and fitness. I often hear about past trials that were unsuccessful which lead to a healthy skepticism in matters of following a protocol for health and fitness.
There are a lot of pitfalls that can cause someone to not reach their health and fitness goals like bad science, bro science, tracking is hard, secret snacks, crusty knees, magazine articles, fear or anything.
Hopefully in each of those unsuccessful trials you’re able to quantify why the protocol didn’t work for you or didn’t work at all.
🗣️Don’t let the skepticism turn effective tools into negative stimuli that will make you have trouble trusting a concrete process.
🔑Ask questions that help you understand the pathway you’re taking and why.
🔑Have a positive approach to nutrient tracking and understanding how nutrients work within your body/generally.
🔑Trust the process if the pathway is sound without adding in input from past experiences.
