Perhaps for the fear of being unable to justly curate fashion as art, the desire to attract the foot traffic that other art museums get when they grace their spaces with fashion exhibitions, or just the intuition that fashion is on a brink of something as an artistic medium- MoMA is succumbing to a compromise - it is hosting an exhibition of "items" of fashion, not artworks. The show "Items: Is Fashion Modern?" opens on October 1, in NYC, and MoMA will be housing proliferated, already iconic fashion objects, that are not artworks in their conceptions, but are museum-worthy in their long lasting track record of social, political and artistic effects. One of those objects- Nike Bruce Kilgore's "Air Force 1" basketball shoe, first released in 1982. Thanks for the tip @gtgcap Will write about the show, once I visit it.
