When landing in Myanmar, it looked beautiful even from the plane, like a fairytale land, different from what I've seen before. So many little golden pagodas spread around.
On the ride to the centre, looking on the window, there are vast green spaces surrounded by palm trees and it looks totally deserted. That changes though when entering Mandalay and going onto the busy dusty roads, full of motorcycles.
The people are lovely, so friendly, you notice that almost immediately. And even though they don't speak much English, you feel their kindness.
I went out to get a late lunch after arriving, walking a few minutes down the road from my hotel and I realise I'm the only foreigner around. I get a few surprised looks from locals and some hello's and smiles from kids playing on the side of the road.
It feels exciting to be in such a different world, so many discoveries ahead.
