COOL : @materia_ab couture family. Couture is a flexible range of furniture best described as a modern take on traditional 1950s and 1960s handicraft. A restrained design language is used, but this is counterbalanced by the seats’ soft forms. The range also includes easy chair, sofas, room divider and tables. designed by #marieoscarsson

For #handtoolthursday this week, a tale of 3 jack planes. I’ve been using my LN 62 happily for awhile now and I really have no complaints: it’s extremely versatile with its adjustable mouth and blade up design. My vintage Stanley is a great user for hogging off the big shavings, but alas it lacks in fit and finish as well as some extra heft that I like. The middle plane is new to me and one that I previously had, but sold so I could switch to the 62. When I saw @james_son_of_james was thinking about letting this go: I had to jump on it. Jim is an awesome guy and was nice enough to meet me at my office to drop it off while he was in the area. This plane has the mass and weight that the 62 doesn’t, and of course the machining and finish is second to none. I’m happy to have these three together again, mostly so I can finish flattening that darned slab for my Roubo. This vintage Stanley is actually a Frankenstein that I put together from a bin of vintage stuff in my shop. It works well and did most of the heavy lifting in my slab. Cheers!! #wood#woodworking#tools#handtools#woodworkingtools#lienielsen#handplane#carpentry#furniture#toolporn#craftsmanship#madeintheusa

Moving forward with my next project! I milled up my own 2x2 pieces of poplar for a table base. I love being able to do this! I’m going to paint them, so I was considering just ripping a 2x10 or something. Then I saw rough poplar at the lumber yard and changed my mind! Now I don’t have to worry about covering up any knots and it will be more durable!
DANIEL HESTER // “...The danger of getting in over my head forces me to design my way out. Sometimes it isn’t enough to design on paper, I have to design through making. Using my hands, a plane or chisel, and nothing else invokes a sense of self sufficiency and the connection to nature that I love.”
An awesome evening in conversation with @fash_rev_southafrica @twygmag@cyrilnaicker, discussing the circular economy, garment and textile provenance, the exciting (and challenging) future of textiles, the importance and value of 2nd hand clothing, along with sustainability oriented projects of local fashion institutions @ctcfd, @dafacademy and @cputfashion.
It was an honour to have the opportunity to present alongside these insightful segments, discussing some of the work we do @thedesignhub_sa, including botanical printing and nuno felting.
“Bloom” (ESP) Bloom representa el nacimiento de la vida. Es un objeto multifacético, a la luz del día nos muestra las sutiles colores dorados o plateados de la obsidiana, y en la sombra se ocultan para mostrarnos una oscuridad profunda.
Es una mezcla de técnicas artesanales prehispánicas y procesos industriales modernos, lo cual le da riqueza a cada pieza. (EN) Bloom represents the birth of life itself. It is a multi-faced object, in the daylight it shows the subtle gold or silver patterns of the obsidian, and in the shadow they hide to let the deep dark show.
It is a blend of ancient prehispanic craftsmanship and modern industrial production which add richness to every piece.
