AMERICAN LEAGUE WINS 8-6 IN 10 INNINGS!
The Yankees shined in the 89th MLB All Star Game to help catapult the AL to their 6th straight ASG win!
Who else but Aaron Judge? He took Max Scherzer into the visitors bullpen for the game’s first run. Of course, it landed right into the glove of Luis Severino, who was warming up to work the second inning. Overall, Judge went 1-2 with a home run, a walk and a groundout to third. He’s the first Yankee to homer in an All Star Game since Jason Giambi in 2003. -
Luis Severino pitched the second, and put up a zero. He worked around a leadoff double from Matt Kemp, striking out Bryce Harper and Brandon Crawford in the process. His line: 1.0 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Mike Trout made it 2-0 AL in the third with another home run into the bullpen. Not Yankee related, I know, but it’s pretty amazing that Trout has a hit in all six all star games that he’s played in. It’s his second HR in the midsummer classic. -
The NL got 1 back in the bottom of the 3rd, when Willson Contreras of the Cubs took Tampa’s Blake Snell deep to left. The score would remain 2-1 way until Colorado’s Trevor Story tied it up against Houston’s Charlie Morton in the 7th. -
Fortunately for the AL, Jean Segura (SEA) launched a 3-Run moonshot off Milwaukee’s Josh Hader to put the AL back on top 5-2 in the 8th. Morton would allow another home run in the bottom of the inning to Christian Yelich of the Brewers, who took him deep for a solo shot. Cincy’s Scooter Gennett tied it with a 2-Run shot in the ninth off Edwin Diaz (SEA), but back to back Astro homers from Bregman and Springer got the AL the win in extras. Brantley’s (CLE) sac fly made it 8-5. Votto (CIN) made it 8-6 in the tenth with a HR.
That’s right. 10 homers were hit tonight. That’s the most homers in an ASG ever. Judge, Trout, Contreras, Story, Segura, Yelich, Gennett, Bregman, Springer, Votto.
Really fun to see the Yanks contribute so much to an ASG this year. Judge is the first Yankee to get a hit in the ASG since Jeter had a double and a single in 2014 in Minnesota. -
Fun couple of days in DC, now time to focus on the second half. The Yanks have some work to do.
