This summer there were many great festivals in #DiscoverKyrgyzstan that exposed the culture, traditions and food 😋 of different regions. “Teskei Jeek” ethno-festival in South Shore Issyk-Kul in July 2017, was a true revival of the Kyrgyz Nomad Life. PC: @nasiba_n6

#Travel to the south of #DiscoverKyrgyzstan in October, and you'll come across a tradition that stretches back thousands of years. Walnuts from the forests of Arslanbob were said to be the parents of the seeds Alexander the Great first took to Europe, and locals in these parts have harvested them even before those times. Each fall, locals take to the forests in a massive migration centered around collecting and selling the nuts - and as a visitor it's an exceptional experience to join along in (if even for just a few days). #SecretStans

Women in Kyrgyzstan traditionally had assigned roles, although only the religious elite sequestered women as was done in other Muslim societies.Because of the demands of the nomadic economy, women worked as virtual equals with men, having responsibility for chores such as milking as well as child-rearing and the preparation and storage of food.In the ordinary family, women enjoyed approximately equal status with their husbands, within their traditional roles.Kyrgyz oral literature includes the story of Janyl-myrza, a young woman who led her tribe to liberation from the enemy when no man in the tribe could do so. #kyrgyzstan #discoverkyrgyzstan #nomad #woman

⛰"Heavenly Mountains"
Between the ancient majestic cities of Sogdiana in the west, the lands of mysterious China in the east, the boundless Kazakh steppes - the homeland of nomads in the north, and the highland "Roof of the World" Pamir in the south is a small but beautiful mountain country lying among the snow-covered and ice-covered ridges "Heavenly Mountains" of the gray Tien Shan. This country is Kyrgyzstan. #Discoverkyrgyzstan #kurguzstan #mountains

What is a Yurt? Before we look at all these yurts, let’s define what exactly we’re talking about.

Yurt is “a circular domed tent of skins or felt stretched over a collapsible lattice framework and used by pastoral peoples of inner Asia”. To you and me: a round building with a domed roof. The walls are made of felt, hides or, more commonly, canvas.
Above all, yurts are really cool. They are easy to heat. They handle all sorts of weather with ease. They are cheap. They can be moved and yet make comfortable permanent homes. They are the ideal shelter for a survivalist who wants to be prepared for anything. #DiscoverKyrgyzstan #discover #yurt #ecology #nature

#AlaKol lake is small: its area is less than 1.5 sq.km, but the depth can reach more than 70 m. Ala-Kul Lake is as if in a motley bowl of rocky ridges with snow-white peaks.
