As long as there is water in the bottle, you keep it with you. When bottle are empty, keep it with you until you find a dustbin.
Please collect the plastic during your trek, Hike or Walking etc..

Fishing along the Ganges is one of the main professions for many people 🎣 . It provides income and food. However, the nets used to catch fish are now catching plastic 🥤. This fishermen said this year has been the worst for how much plastic he has been catching. The video shows him cleaning the net of plastic ready to go back out fishing 🎥 .

Photo by @MartinEdstrom | A person washes laundry on the ghats of Varanasi. This ancient city is a key spiritual destination on any traveler's itinerary for India. It is a mythical port to the Ganges, one of the most populated and polluted rivers in the world. Tourism here is a constant factor in pollution. As we become more mindful of the impact of our travels, it's important to consider where and how often we wash our clothes. Microplastics wash off from our laundry, and the communities we visit may be impacted in the long run.

Photo by @MartinEdstrom | Life on the Ganges is seen from the riverbank steps in the holy city of Varanasi, India. While people travel from all over the world to take a tour on this river of rivers, pilgrims also come from all over India to bless themselves with a bath and bring home a flask of the river’s water, which is said to possess magical properties. While this isn't recommended for most travelers due to the pollution of the Ganges, be sure to bring your own water bottle while traveling around the country. Excessive use of single-use plastics is adversely affecting river systems all over the world, so putting filtered water into a refillable bottle instead of buying several plastic ones per day helps make tourism more sustainable. Our focus for @insidenatgeo #expeditionplastic is on finding solutions to #plasticpollution, based on scientific data. Often ways to reduce #singleuseplastic can come from reviving and supporting traditional practices, for example chai cups or coolers instead of the plastic-lined paper cups that are increasingly common. @natgeoindia #community #india #makingadifference #planetorplastic

I am glad to announce my participation with my dream team @ivarstudios in the National Geographic Expedition Sea to Source: Ganges throughout November and December in India. 🙏

We're following the river Ganges for @insidenatgeo taking a look at the issue of plastics. Led by the magical director @martinedstrom our fantastic producer @rapparsven, super cool videographer @oliverakermo and the local expert me @ravimishraindia and story producer @theriggedveda join an expedition of top scientists working with plastics. We are documenting their work and the lives of the communities along the Ganges. 🏞️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A story soon to be told in a VR headset near you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We’re back with another behind-the-scenes installment from our “Sea to Source: Ganges” post-monsoon expedition team! Today, we are on the ground with the land team, who are studying the systems around waste, and waste generation. The expedition team has spent a lot of time looking at waste in India, recording more than 70,000 litter items along their transects so far. They are working to characterize the “litter personalities” of each site they visit.

Doing laundry on the ghats of Varanasi, India. In many ways it seems a contradictory act, as the river Ganges is one of the most polluted water systems in the world. However 400 million people live in its basin and depend on its waters for their agriculture, their livelihood - and in many communities it's the source for drinking water.

Shot on assignment for @insidenatgeo. We're following the Sea to Source: Ganges expedition for a long stretch across India, as the expedition's scientists try to map out the use of plastic and its effect on the environment.

At each sampling site we are delivering #education sessions on #plasticpollution in two schools as part of @insidenatgeo #expeditionplastic. Had a fantastic time helping @navin_k_das deliver this session in Kannuj with @surshtipatel. Pupils get to track and categorise litter in their community using a paper version of Marine Debris Tracker, think about options for solutions, connect to wildlife and make a pledge. @natgeoindia #plasticfreecommunities #planetorplastic

First light on a tributary of the Ganges in northern India. Some fishermen wake up to a new day of work, while some return from a long night on the boat.

Glad to be in India #onassignment for @natgeo @insidenatgeo on the Sea to Source: Plastic expedition with stellar team @rapparsven, @oliverakermo, @ravimishraindia and @theriggedveda. We're following the Ganges for @insidenatgeo taking a look at the issue of plastics and possible solutions along this river that is a vital water supply for so many people in India and Bangladesh.

A story soon to be told in a VR headset near you.

Meet sediment dragger number 2 👋 ! After losing the first sediment dragger to an unmarked shipwreck 🚢 in the Ganges (long story..) our replacement was made in 1 day out of a old potato sac, a mosquito net and some old bits of iron. We are scraping the top layer of sediment to understand what plastic is settling to the bottom of the river! #expeditionplastic

#Trains are one of the best ways to get around #india. I love riding on them for #ExpeditionPlastic. Our team gets to ride together and we can take time to catch up with each other, have snacks, play games... all of which can be hard to do while working long days in the field. This is the train from Sahibganj to Patna, about a 6 hour train ride. These are some of our awesome team members from Wildlife Institute of India (WII), and IIT - Kharagpur. Everyone in great spirits, on our way walking to the train station, we took a pit stop for lassi. A high protein yogurt-like drink that's like a meal, and they said they particularly enjoy in the summer. Great team memories! #PlanetorPlastic #choosetheplanet @natgeoindia @natgeo @insidenatgeo @ugaengineering @ugaresearch @universityofga @heatherk_zsl @imogennapper @brooksamy90 @youngblood.kathryn @_ektasharma @surshtipatel @sumitsharma6751 @hina.khatoon1712 @navin_k_das

Back to our regularly scheduled programming of beautiful #traffic in #india. While on a boat in Bangladesh, we're on trains and road trips for the rest of #ExpeditionPlastic in India. It's really amazing how smoothly people travel around in cars, motorbikes, tuk-tuks bikes, walking... all forms of transport flowing together, yet going in their respective directions. Horns don't mean your angry, they simply announce your presence. Decorations add to the sight-seeing. Time flys by looking out the window. #PlanetorPlastic @natgeoindia @insidenatgeo @ugaresearch @ugaengineering @imogennapper @youngblood.kathryn @brooksamy90
