4 takeaways from Popeyes recent Chicken Sandwich Craze
1. Create a good product that has VALUE: It ain’t the healthiest but its still food. Food is a necessity & there is value in that. You will have an EASIER time selling something that adds value/makes people lives easier. Popeyes (regardless of where your chicken sandwich allegiance lies) made a good product. Folks should begin to ask: “How does my product/service add value?" "Would I personally buy my product/service?” You can’t force someone to support/buy your product if it ain’t adding value to their lives.
2. The value of social media & community: Social media has brought the world closer together. Regardless if you are a superstar or micro-influencer, you can reach so many people without having to spend so much in promoting your product if used correctly. The community/tribe element is important when building a brand. Humans fear missing out & naturally wanna be in the know. Let people go crazy with the memes, videos, etc. it will add to their FOMO. Engage with the people also. Showing love goes a long way. It can’t be one-sided. Its why Popeyes was able to generate all this attention.
3. Price: You want as many people to have access to your product. Price shouldn’t be a barrier starting out when your product/service lacks recognition. Especially if your target audience isn’t affluent. I’m not saying undervalue your product (I understand that overhead needs to be paid.) In Popeyes case, $3.99 for most people is not too steep of a barrier to obtaining their product & it helps that they are a known brand.
4. Black influence: As people of color, we are the gatekeepers to what is cool. We dictate what is trendy in our society. Never lose sight of that! Tap into that thing that makes you unique. With our influence, we elevated the popularity of this sandwich. #WordsFromKev #FreeGame
