I started running 4 years ago on October 2014. I was tired of just sitting at my daughters swim practice and was antsy, having lost 150 pounds I wanted to kick my weight loss into overdrive and it was what I needed to compliment my lifestyle change of better and healthier eating so I started walking and then running that became my new obsession.
My motivation to keep running is it is a great way to maintain my 270 pound weight loss for almost 5 years.
My greatest success in running, is still to come. But till then, I would have to say it's got to be in 2017 I wanted to run 1,000 Kilometers in a year and on the last day possible to finish this goal I needed 9K to finish and we were in the midst of a heavy snow storm in Northeast Indiana, but I went out and knocked out just shy of 11K and did it.
My ultimate goal is just keep doing things that obese me never would have drempt possible. I see a race and think no way would I ever do that and sure enough I find myself thinking about starting to train for it.
My favorite race to run has the be the Cherry festival half Marathon in Traverse City Michigan every July. I have run it 3 times and my family and I base our summer vacation around it now. The race starts off running through a vineyard the cherry orchards and finishes with a 10+ mile run down a peninsula that overlooks beautiful Grand Traverse Bay. When life is rough, I reach back in my mind and pull out the overwhelming feelings from every run in that race.
My best motivational quote is from Will Smith "God placed all the best things in life on the other side of terror" that makes me go further and further. I was scared of a 5K ran 3, then wanted to run a 10K, ran some and it grew to me doing my 1st full marathon. Right now I'm scared of doing a 50K ultra, but I will do one soon.
