Dead-Stop Leg Press.

In the clip you will see I have set the leg press up so that when I get to 90 degrees the weight hits the stoppers. I then pause for 1s and drive the weight back up. I love this variation for a few reasons:
.
1. Its pretty much the box squat variation of a leg press. There is no stretch reflex at the bottom - you cant use any momentum/ bouncing at the bottom to get the weight back up.
.
2. It makes you honest, there is no way out of this. You cant half rep it as you have to lower it down to the stoppers, so all your reps are consistent.
.
3. The teaching cue I use with clients is “lower the weight silently onto the stoppers” I.e. don’t bounce it off there. This teaching cue really makes you control the weight eccentrically.
.
Other things to think about:
.
1. The height at which you set the stoppers will depend on your active range of motion (will be different for everyone). You want your lower back to remain in contact with the pad throughout. If your lower back starts to “curve up” you will cause yourself an injury in the long run.
.
2. You will notice I am gripping the handles and pulling myself into the seat throughout, this is to really lock myself in and create stability. Im not pushing my knees with my handles or flapping my hands around.
.
3. I am not locking out at the top. Just short of lockout every rep.
.
4. When the weight hits the stopper at the bottom I am not completely relaxing I’m still keep the tension in my legs during the 1s pause.
.
5. Helps to have a good training partner like @mjwfitness_ shouting in your face to motivate and push your through the set! .

This has been my face all day!

😫I don’t usually get headaches but when I do them come on hard! Started to get 1 this afternoon but thought it would subside and was super excited to bench heavy!
-
🙄It continues to get worse and although I managed to bench 92.4kg for 2 sets of 4. I knew I wasn’t getting another set without losing balance or going dizzy and so I reduced the weight thinking it would ease. It didn’t and was just as painful on other exercises. So I just called it a day from there👎

🤷🏻‍♂️Yes, it really sucks that I’ve basically missed an opportunity to progress but it’s better than risking an injury.
-
☝🏼More often then not, if you have a mild headache or a cold you can power through a workout and it might even help, but don’t be stubborn to the point you just make things work.
-
🙏Know your body and understand that missing 1 workout to heal is a lot better than powering through and missing the next 2 weeks due to a strain or worsen of your condition.
-
👎What super sucks is that I’m unable to train tomorrow too which means I’m ultimately going 3 days without a solid workout. Not the end of the world of course and it’s a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of thing...but man I enjoy these sessions!

I meet a lot of people who complain about the way they look. Some people have an issue with belly fat, some with hips, some hair fall and what not.
It is crucial to understand that all these “complains” are your body’s attempts to speak to you. It is trying to tell that something in your lifestyle is wrong and hence the excessive fat.

Don’t treat these alarms as mere aesthetic hindrance. Treat it with gratitude. Your body is talking to you, you need to listen to it and get to work.

Processo de fabricação do Whey Protein

Basicamente, são dois os componentes protéicos do leite: 1. Caseína e 2. Whey protein (proteína do soro do leite). A maioria da whey protein é obtida como resultado do processo de fabricação do queijo. Quando o pH do leite é alterado, a caseína coalha e se separa do soro, que fica sobre a caseína. O soro é coletado e passa por vários processos, que vão posteriormente determinar a qualidade da whey protein extraída.
Durante estes processos, a gordura e a lactose são filtradas para que o produto final seja “low fat”, “low carb” e altamente concentrado. A quantidade de proteína pode variar de 35% a 95%. Obviamente, quanto maior a concentração de proteínas, mais vezes tem que ser filtrado, aumentando os custos. Normalmente, quando se tem mais de 88% de proteína, chamamos de isolado (WPI), menos que isso, passam a ser concentrados (WPC).
Durante a filtração, os compostos com baixo peso molecular como a lactose, minerais, vitaminas, são removidos e a proteína fica concentrada. Depois da filtração a proteína é pasteurizada, evaporada e seca. A secagem é feita em temperaturas baixas para evitar que a proteína desnature.

I want to shed some well-deserved light on the work my client/friend, @merandamundy is putting forth. I was not behind the entirety of the timeframe between these photos, but those who follow Meranda know the work she has put in.

Although there is a plethora of qualities that Meranda has showcased in our time working together. Resilience is one of her strongest.

Resilience to obstacles of all magnitudes, getting knocked on her butt and getting right back up, stronger than before.

🔽SIMPLE VOLUME TIP FOR FAT LOSS🔽

Many people believe that when they start dieting they'll have to cut their food intake in half. That's not necessarily the truth. In fact, you can actually eat the same volume of the foods if you choose the right ones.

Today I just wanted to show a quick example. On the left side is the classic meal of lean protein, veggies, and 2x rice and if you just swap 2x rice with the 2x veggies you'll literally cut calories almost in half. Almost all veggies are super low calorie and because of that they are great option for fat loss while still keeping on the same volume.

Another thing I also showed in this example is swapping your juice with water, coffee, tea, or diet soda. The choice is yours, but the point is that liquids are not fulfilling at all and you should swap calorie liquids with the calorie free ones whenever you can.

#TransformationTuesday this was a short and sweet 6-8 week ‘minicut’ (I say 6-8 weeks because I don’t remember the dates exactly - and don’t want to mislead people) pre-family holiday over Easter. I wasn’t unhappy with how I looked in the pic on the left, but it was out of shape for me - and the result of some long days, some longer weeks, and a great lack of preparation - nutritionally. So I tidied my diet up, prioritised protein, made sure I was in a (very mild) caloric deficit, and ate lots of fruit and vegetables, some decent fats and lots of water, I did supplement with Curcumin and Eskimo Oil fish oils, but that’s it. I didn’t change training drastically (in fact at THIS time it was only roughly 3 whole body workouts a week with a sprinkling of cardio) and this was the result. Training right now is 1-3 sessions a day, and diet is geared toward performance, not fat loss or muscle gain, and I’ll see where that takes me. It's a great day to have a great day. I had an amazing workout! Here's a fact about me I use to be super intimidated by the gym, especially the weights area. I was not a fan of people looking at me, it made me feel insecure and doubt if I was even doing thw workout right which caused me to lose focus on what I should be doing.😫 My husband can confirm this to you guys. So I played it safe and only did cardio when I first started, although cardio is necessary for some more than others. It will not tone up your physique. For my ladies that assume the weights will make you look manly we don't build enough testosterone for that.😆🏋🏼‍♀️

A huge tip that works for me is planning ahead before you step into the gym and headphones are a huge M U S T blast the music and zone out. If you are not sure about something don't be afraid to ask most of the time people will be flattered you did. Also if you aren't certain about machines I suggest walking around the gym and familiarize yourself with each machine you will notice it has a description informing you what body part it will work out. 📄

INSULIN RESISTANCE
Insulin resistance means your body doesn’t use insulin to shuttle glucose to the liver, muscles, and other tissues of the body like it should, and therefore creates more of it than normal. This increased insulin production makes it very hard for the body to burn fat and can lead to a host of other problems if not taken care of.
The quickest measure of insulin resistance is the old eyeball test in the mirror. If have a decent amount of abdominal fat it’s pretty safe to say you’re looking at someone with at least a slight degree of insulin resistance.
To get more detailed I suggest getting a glucometer and testing blood glucose levels. You can grab one at your local pharmacy for around $15-20 plus the extra supplies you’ll need (lancing device, lancets & test strips). First, Test your blood sugar first thing in the morning in a fasted state. This is called your “fasting” blood sugar level. Optimally this level should be between 75-90 mg/dL.

Second, Test your 2-hour post-meal blood sugar.  This reading tells you how efficient your body is at balancing your blood sugar. Optimally this level should be less than 120 mg/dL. The closer to 100, the better.
Third, Test your 3-hour post-meal blood sugar.
Your glucose level should be back to your fasting level or under 100 mg/dL. This is a normal healthy response to eating a meal.

The Bottom line is if you are starting to pack on weight in a not so great areas &/or you can’t get rid of stubborn body fat, and you have suboptimal numbers from testing, an insulin reset is exactly what you need. This is one of the only places I would recommend a lower carb or even ketogenic approach for a few weeks or even longer to help improve insulin sensitivity.

Can you lose fat and still enjoy the food you eat? Of course you bloody can!

This weekend, in all honesty, I've had a few too many calories 😬

It's fine though, I take responsibility for that and I don't expect to lose much fat this week.

I'm not overweight, I was but I took care of that.

Now I can happily let my weight fluctuate up and down by a couple of pounds and it's fine.

So...back to the point...
When a person decides they want to lost fat, it's normally followed by a desperate attempt to remove all unwanted fat in a week or two.

Unfortunately, if you want to get 'toned', that won't happen. It doesn't go on quickly in the first place, it's normally weeks, months or years of consuming more calories than the person is expending, then the sudden realisation of being overweight.

It's important to enjoy what you eat, that's what your taste buds are for and no one food makes you fat, the amount of calories consumed Vs the amount of calories burned, essential dictates your fat storage.

I hate fad diets! Any eating plan that isn't sustainable is a fad. Keto, Paleo, the juice diet, you name it, there are loads and people buy into them like it's magic.
Absolutely EVERY diet plan that you lose fat on, HAS to have you in a calorie deficit, it's biologically impossible to consume more calories than you expend and lose fat!

Start by looking at your favourite foods and work out the calories they contain, then for fatloss, eat within a set amount of calories and reduce if you see no results after two weeks.

I could write more but most people won't even read this far!
