Happy Tuesday, fam! Hope all my 🇨🇦 peeps had a wonderful May long weekend! Road trip/camping season is officially upon us 😍🚙⛺️⛰️⛱️🙌
▫️
Travelling shouldn’t be a source of stress about how you’re going to stay on track, OR an excuse to go completely nuts & fall off the wagon. Your fitness should compliment your life on the road just like it does your day-to-day!
▫️
Here are a few simple tips on how you can stay on track while enjoying your weekend getaway AND come back feeling great mentally & physically:
➖Pack some healthy/high-protein snacks. You don’t need to do hours of meal prep or pack a bajillion tupperwares to stay on track - a little preparation goes a long way! My “meal prep” this past weekend consisted of me throwing a bunch of foods into a bag/cooler 5 mins before leaving the house, and it went a long way👌(Hotel mini fridges and microwaves work wonders – see my “travel eats” story highlight for some ideas 🤓).
➖Set aside some time for exercise/activity during the day – even if it’s short, &/or different from your usual routine. Getting some sort of movement in will not only help you stay on track, but will also put you in a great mood so you can better enjoy your time! One of my favorite things to do when I’m travelling is to put on a pair of sneakers and explore the area 🏃‍♀️(this is a great suggestion for a group activity as well!).
➖Get creative with your workouts. Just because you don’t have access to a full gym doesn’t mean you can’t get a great workout in! (**see yesterday’s workout video post**) If you’re blank for ideas, there are free apps you can download on your phone that will make a workout for you based on the equipment you have available 👌 (i.e., Fitbod).
➖Make conscious choices when eating out (lots to say here, so a full post on this topic will be coming soon!). It’s totally fine to have some treats and let a bit loose, but you don’t need to make EVERY meal like that, and you want to make choices that will make you FEEL good as well as well as just taste! 👌

{TRAINING TIP TUESDAY} Running is not my first choice for exercise, but when I do run, it’s usually in the form of SPRINTS! 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️ Or a FitTread class at @fitrev, which alternates between intervals on the treadmill (sprints included) and weight work.

When I was traveling a couple of weeks ago, my #FitOnTheGo workout of choice was to do some sprints up and down my friend's street.
#
Why? Because if you are looking for bang for your buck, EFFICIENT cardio like I was that day, sprints are KING!
#
When you sprint, you are going all out as fast you can for a very short time or distance: somewhere between 50-200 meters.
#
If you don’t have a track to measure your distance, you can use time for about 20-30 seconds, which is what I did for one round... and then just used a pole on the street as my distance marker.
#
When you sprint, your workout won't be very long at all (win!), but it’s still going to be super effective and target your entire body... especially those abs. I could tell I had been neglecting my sprint work because my abs were sore for DAYS after just 6 twenty second sprints, haha! 😳 And I felt a little slow moving. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But I'm glad I chose the sprints while traveling so I didn't have to spend all morning working out and missing out on friend time. 💜 I was able to get both in and not feel like I had to choose! For more tips on sprints and why I recommend them so much, check out the blog post linked in my bio.

Did you miss your Saturday morning workout? Maybe with this rain you aren’t feeling motivated to get to the gym anymore? The beauty of #FitOnTheGo style workouts is that they can be done literally anywhere, indoors or out. And the shortest workout in the program is 4 minutes. Yep, FOUR! So here’s your rainy day fitness challenge, my friends: get up and do one burpee Tabata power up. 20 seconds on, 10 seconds rest, 4 minutes. Can’t do burpees? Sub any cardio move such as mountain climbers, squat jumps, high knees. Anything to get that heart rate up a little and keep your fitness momentum. Four minutes is better than zero. Go!!!

{TRAINING TIP TUESDAY} Sometimes when I don’t feel like working out, I’ll bargain with myself. Instead of forcing a variation of an exercise I’m not in the mood for, I’ll give myself permission to switch up the lift that’s in my plan/program that day for another variation that feels more fun in the moment but still works the same muscle groups. For example, when I’m really not in the mood to set up my barbell deadlifts, I’ll get in and still work on hinging with the landmine or kettlebells instead. If I don’t want to go to the gym that day, I’ll work hinges #FitOnTheGo style with my bands at home. These simple motivation hacks are sometimes all it takes, and they make a big difference for consistency! #TrainingTipTuesday #Deadlifts #AntiPerfectFitness
