Hi all, this is me saying hi from #Borneo! And I'm smiling on this photo, because somehow my Indonesian co-workers always have to take photos of me while I'm sweating my ass off! I have so many photos with my hair sticking to my red face .
In this post, I would like to tell you a bit more about my professional journey, which has been enjoyable, tough, fun, exciting, challenging, passionate, #awesome and adventurous. Let's summarise: I learnt a lot about myself, forests, people, why forests are being cut down, and about the world in general. I've grown (I'm still 6 ft tall).
It all started when I first set foot in #Indonesia at the age of #21 , after which I felt, more than ever, that the bubble that I grew up in was partly responsible for part of the loss of Indonesia’s beautiful, but threatened #forests. Also, I felt that I wanted to contribute to protecting these forests.
A few years later, I therefore switched my lab work in #Amsterdam for fieldwork in #Sumatra, and started a Master's and, later on, a PhD in #sustainable agriculture and tropical forest #conservation in #indonesia.
In between, I had worked for #WWF and I loved the projects and my colleagues. But I love and enjoy the things that I do now even more: Since I obtained my #PhD and started my self-employed advisory work, I can choose my own projects, provide advice on sustainable agriculture and forest conservation, and initiate projects to reduce #plastic. Further, I work together with so many people & partners and I get to work (part-time) in & travel through beautiful places in Indonesia.
But what I love the most is that I get inspired by beautiful people and #inspire others in return, I feel passionate about what I do, I (hope I) contribute to a greener world, and I wake up every day knowing that I've found my #dreamjob (although not all aspects are fun: see next post). All in all, I'm in the right place and I'm doing the thing that I love the most, and I'm #grateful for that .
