I live in an apartment building of 49 units yet this isn't my forever home. It is just a stopping place until I move on for the last time.
My apartment building makes me think of John 14:1-3 where Jesus said: "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." KJV.
While this is a very nice brand new building, we are enjoying the newness of it, but I look forward to living in my promised forever home.
I trust Jesus when He said He was going to prepare a place for me...and for you. Do you believe that He is doing that? Making a brand new place for you?
We have a heavenly home waiting for us. This earth is only a temporary place. We shouldn't get too attached to 'things' here because one day soon, we will go home. Just as Jesus promised.
But, for a moment, let's look at the beginning of this passage. Jesus comforts us by saying not to be troubled. Not to worry about anything. If we can trust God, we can also trust Jesus. The disciples were sad because Jesus said He was going away but it was for their sake, and ours, that He did leave earth to return to heaven. He prepared a forever home for us.
It's a promise that He made. It's a promise that we can expect to see fulfilled when it is our time to go home forever.
Do you trust Jesus? Can you believe His promise?
