In so many different ways, I’ve said that the preceding generation of tap dancers are the people who have shown us the way, lighting the path for our feet to tap on. That path leads us towards the future of tap dance, and they make this an art form for everyone to learn and partake, regardless of backgrounds.
I can now say with confidence that there are a few tap dancers of the younger generations who are also lighting that path, as well, like #TapInspiration Elizabeth Abel (@elizabethabel42). Elizabeth is not yet 20, and already, this amazing young tap dancer from Portland, Oregon, is making waves in the tap community. A regular among tap intensives and other functions across the country, Elizabeth is already one of the West Coast’s finest young talents. She is a member of the #nofilter Sole Talk Youth Company (@soletalkyouth). She is a magnificent performer, and an unbelievable inspiration to those who are privileged to know her and perform with her.
Elizabeth is living proof that elder tap dancers must never overlook and discount the youngest tap dancers, because they bring so much to the table. When I say “younger,” I don’t just mean young in years; I also mean young in experience, as well. People who are learning and are trying to soak up as much knowledge and wisdom as they can will surely look to people like Elizabeth for that guidance. She makes us all want to get better, and personally, she inspires me to want to be better.
Sometimes, that inspiration is all it takes.
Happy birthday, Elizabeth! And thank you. 💜
