Overflowing with Christmas joy🎄
When visiting Transit Museum last month they mentioned each Sunday during the holidays two vintage trains ride the rails.
By way of miracle, this beauty pulled in when leaving work. Happiness, laughter, and abundant chatter was had by all. No headphones nor frowns - just awe and novelty.
This one was from the 1940s, with the original ads, fans spinning, and lights sporadically flickering on and off between stations.
A conductor was in each car, announcing aloud at each station where we were, then keyed the doors closed. Felt like a movie.
It was loud, rocked aggressively, and squeaked (loved it!). Seats were laced straw and stuffed with hay for a cushion bounce. And much smaller, making standing room abundant.
Each station we pulled into, jaws dropped and onlookers didn’t know if it was real - many didn’t board! 😆 Those that did immediately melted into ongoing conversations.
Gotta tell you, thought of taking it to the end of the line. What an experience!
PS - look at end of first video (Bryant Park) and last pic (West 4th), same dude in both. He never moved entire ride - too overwhelmed about looking out the back 🤣
