This is a crop as Instagram can't display the full panoramic. Please visit my Facebook page to see the full image. This image was taken when I travelled to Iceland in 2017. The back story before I took this picture is interesting. I was only there for 4 days and I was part of a small group being taken around by a local Icelandic tour guide Kristjan. On this particular day we were going to explore a lava tube, which is a tunnel created many years ago underground by lava travelling across and under the land from one of the many hundreds of active Volcanos in the local area. When we arrived it was still very dark as we were only getting around 2.5 hours of sunlight a day from around 11am and it was mid January and we were still in the grips of winter. We traversed down into the lava tube and began exploring the tunnel which was around 200 meters long. We had our hard hats on with flash lights attached, reflecting off each other and the sharp lifeless rocks that surrounded us. We were down there for around 2 hours and it was an amazing place to visit. There was a skeleton of a sheep which had wondered in there around 200 years ago and couldn't find its way out. We also all sat at the furthest point and turned our torches off. This heightened our sense of hearing and the sound of the water cascading through the ceiling onto the floor of the cave way eery and also hypnotic. After this we started to head back to the entrance and climb back up the icy slope we had traversed in the beginning. When we got back outside we were confronted with the view you see in this image. It was staggering and we were all unaware of its existence when we arrived as it was too dark to see. The landscape reminded me of a scene out of a film something like Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit. I instantly grabbed my camera equipment from the mini bus and took 3 landscape pictures to combine together later into a panoramic that you are able to see now.
