Kyushu tonkotsu ramen from @oniramenofc in Dallas, TX
After hitting up @ramenexpousa, we were getting desperate for a proper bowl of ramen, so @neighborhoodramensocial, @ramenover, and I went to Oni Ramen in Deep Ellum.
I ordered what they said was their most popular bowl, a tonkotsu with a ton of mayu, menma, negi, beni shoga, and kikurage. The chashu was pretty much a slab of smoked bacon.
This bowl was... Interesting. I feel like way too much was going on all at once and I couldn't really enjoy the bowl because of it. One bite would be all beni shoga (sweet medicinal ginger) and the next would be too much garlic. If the toppings were reduced to half their amounts, I could see this being a more successfully executed bowl. Until then, this would really only be good for extremely late night ramen.
