Meet my new favorite Kahlil Whitney, my #2 HS Player and #3 prospect for 2020, Consensus Top 10 recruit, and #7 in the ESPN 2020 Mock Draft.
Two people come to mind when I think of Whitney. Kawhi Leonard and Miles Bridges. Listen now, the Kawhi comp gets tossed around way too often because it’s a likable comparison, but Whitney might just be a clone.
He is a bigger athlete than Kawhi and that’s where Miles comes in. Kahlil is a blur in the half court and can tip in his own misses and convert them into dunks. He almost reminds me of an ox and he’s strong like a bull with a thin frame in that regard, he throws down everything, he’s a lob threat, and he won’t shy away from the glass.
Hints to Kawhi are seen because Whitney has the chance to be a special, dangerous 1v1 player. His turnaround and fadeaway jumper automatically draws the comparison. He’s even almost consistently knocking down rhythm 3’s. Lastly, like a lot of guys with this comparison, Whitney has the potential to be great on defense. He’s already half way there, now he just needs to become a student of the game like a lot of young prospects.
