#tbt to Sin City, and all the delicious food it has to offer! Spent 4 days there last week, and while it was not so good to my wallet and my waistline, it certainly made my taste buds happy. I’ll be highlighting several meals from the weekend over the next few posts, but had to kick it off with what is hands down my absolute favorite restaurant in the city, Lotus of Siam. Another spot featured on Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown, this Thai restaurant is one of the best in the country. I was fortunate to spend some time in northern Thailand earlier this year, and this food transported me right back. So many explosive flavors, fresh herbs, citrus juice, plenty of pork, and of course, Khao Soi, simply some of the best dishes you’ll find anywhere. Luckily had some friends with me so we sampled a variety of dishes, too many to cover in a single post, so to do justice to this food, I’ll split it over two. Do not miss eating here if you are in Las Vegas.
Pictured: Nam Kao Tod (Crispy rice mixed with sour cubed pork, cilantro, onion, ground chilis, ginger, peanuts, lime juice), Nam Prik Noom (A green chili dip of roasted green chili, garlic, onions and tomatoes, served with vegetables and fried pork skins) spicy chicken wings (deep fried, sautéed in sweet chili, garlic sauce, topped with fried basil), Northern Larb (ground pork cooked with northern Thai spices, fresh herbs)
Price: $8.95, $11.95, $8.95, $11.95
Best Bite: From this selection, has to be the Nam Khao Tod. This was the first time I had ever tried this dish, and I am addicted. The puffy rice texture is nice and crispy and the flavor of the cilantro and lime compliment the sourness of the pork. The ground chili gives a lovely warmth to the dish as well. Will be trying to learn to make this myself for sure!
