The Ark is a huge fortress in the city of Bukhara in Uzbekistan. First built around the 5th century AD, this massive structure was both fort and town, home to the royal courts that ruled the region. It served its last days as a fortress in 1921 when the Russians put it out of business. These days it's just a tourist attraction, with museums, souvenir stalls, carpet shops and some panoramic views over the city.
