My new song, Heather in December, is now available on all good streaming platforms + full video on Facebook and YouTube.
Along with the wonderful women and men of the @bulgariansymphonyorchestra, I want to thank my musical brethren, @joe_egan_studio @johnbyrnemusic1 @nfjmaher and @ciaranye_west for their nous and creativity in bringing to life this thing of beauty.
A little insight and observation: the vocal take seen here was filmed a full year before John Byrne's superb orchestral arrangement took place. Seeing the footage back for the first time, I found some of conductor Victor Lliev's gestures and movements uncannily similar to mine, considering the two sessions were recorded independently of each other – as if I'm reacting to notes that have yet to be played.
The are numerous links of intuition in this chain: John has instinctively written the score I had in mind and Victor, in turn, physically communicates its inherent mood and textures to the musicians in the room in Sofia. Everyone involved is working within parameters of one hidden language, one arcane stream of consciousness. It is a joy to see a shared muse in action like this.
As for the lyrics and the song itself, my most arresting images come from the dreamscape - a half waking in half-light, where you can just about capture rivulets running through the subconscious and distil them for posterity. Heather now exists outside my own imagination, ready for her journey into the world.
