YOU MIGHT HAVE NOTICED: your commute is getting longer every year.
According to the Census Bureau, Douglas County’s average travel time to work has risen to 19.3 minutes. That’s up from 18.6 minutes in the time span from 2008 to 2012. There are 59,000 more drivers commuting than 10 years ago.
So, what about public transportation? Or walking? Or biking? Well, all combined is only about 4 percent of commuters. That's 96 percent driving, and 87 percent of which is a single passenger driver. Whoa.
What do you think? Should Omaha work towards getting more public transportation? Should we improve the current ones? The Omaha World Herald notes a few options in the works.
