Barbershop Sunset - (aka Synaptic Memory Unfolding: Family Contact Patches, Snakes 'n Ladders)
60"x40" 2016, by Oli Goldsmith - http://oligoldsmith.com/
Mega MixedMedia Turbo Tight Pack n Stack - yet another (one of only remaining larger works left from 'Maybe It's Jargon' @ Engine Gallery)
Blend of graffiti paint markers, acrylic paint, pigment inkjet prints (typically on resin based transparencies, then adhered to a variety of holographic/metallic and die cut elements - from scans or vector images. Ie. drawing/handwriting of mine vectorized then cut out with silhouette die cutter from vinyl and laid down in layers of clear artresin - so there is a 3d depth aspect going on in person :) .... mixing traditional with digital and experimental mediums has always been process i love to explore.
My work has always found an alchemical magic in the mixing of expansive digital imaging technologies and output techniques together with physical, traditional techniques and mediums long familiar to painters and artists. The crisp lines of pop culture images unified with expressive drawing modes and raw, emotive painting approaches.
This binary / organic duality remains a central dichotomy of exploration in both my working method and the many overlapping approaching that mirror the ever-more symbolic, synthetic and mediated world our lives are surrounded with. Always full of novel surprise, the mutual play of image modalities contributes to the richness of his canvases.
The imagery heightens the playful tension in the work by subverting some of the iconographic symbols of modern life. To Goldsmith a Pepsi bottle is more than a ubiquitous brand, but a vessel that forms part of our visual language in the same way a circle does, or the colours red and blue.
