The Jacksonville Zoo recently announced the hatchings of two Magellanic Penguins, one on July 30th and August 7th. These photos are of the youngest chick at 10 days old and the oldest chick at 17 days old. Unlike the previous two, CJ and Sharky, these chicks are being successfully raised by their parents. In wild, these birds are from the South American coasts of Argentina, Chile, Falkland Islands, and sometimes Brazil. Fortunately, they are not endangered in the wild but their close relatives, African Penguins, are. The AZA is partnering with conservation groups in South Africa to help protect their nesting and feeding grounds.
