💥6️⃣ STRETCH: This is an excellent stretch for your spinal column. This is especially great to do post leg day because, while exercises like squatting are great, they compress the spinal cord and leave you a bit unaligned. This simple hanging stretch realigns the muscles and tendons of the vertebral column. Gently let yourself hang, tilt your head forward, and hold for a few seconds.

I was on a coaching call with a client earlier this week and she was upset because she felt like she was in this pattern of taking two steps forward and one step back in her relationship with her body image, food, and fitness. Naturally, it was upsetting her because she didn’t want to be moving backwards in her goals after all of the hard work she had been putting in. •

As I sat and listened to her, I reminded her that growth isn’t linear. I repeat, GROWTH ISN’T LINEAR. •

I find so many people get upset when they are making strides for the better, and then something comes in and “knocks them of course”. Then they think, “shit, I just undid all of my progress.”

Hold up. No, you did not just wreck all of your progress. You may feel like you just took a step back, or 10, but that action has set you up to evaluate situations, struggles, and scenarios that come up in life, and now you have an opportunity to learn from them and handle them with better care the next time they arise in life. •

So the next time something comes up and you feel like it’s set you back, simply remember that it’s setting you up for an even greater victory. We can only claim victory over the battles we know we’re in.

Body Positive Fitness means you can listen to your body, instead of forcing it to do something because it “should”. Today I’m “supposed to” lift heavy weights, but my whole body is sore and telling me it needs a rest day. Listening to it and stretching is still winning in my book!
