I found the @beyondmeat burgers at our local vegan store @allaboutempathy_veganshop and HAD to try them!! ‘You can find a scientific study to support anything’ 🤨

I hear this phrase (or versions of it) very regularly and it shows a misunderstanding of both the scientific method and the state of the research literature. 🧐
#
To be clear, it is true that you can ‘cherry pick’ studies (ie choose studies which are not representative of the scientific literature as a whole). There are also topics where researchers have different opinions because they interpret the scientific data differently. However, this doesn’t mean you can find a study to support anything. 🤓
#
For example, there are many topics where our current understanding is incomplete. You can’t invent studies that don’t exist! It’s important to remember though that absence of evidence does not mean evidence of absence. In other words, just because we don’t have the data yet, it doesn’t mean an idea is invalid (it just hasn’t been validated or invalidated yet). 😎
#
There are also some ideas that have been invalidated in the research literature. However much you might want it to be true, there are some ideas which you will not be able to support with scientific evidence. There are instances when individuals try to support false ideas with scientific evidence (often by providing references) but if you look closely at the studies themselves, you’ll soon be able to see the lack of validity of the individual’s statements. Sadly, often providing references is seen as automatically providing legitimacy for an individual’s argument. Using scientific sounding language also adds to this sense of legitimacy. Unfortunately, it’s easy to fake expertise (at least on the surface). 😑

As you can tell, I’m really passionate about science. I hate when it is misrepresented. I realise that many people have no desire to read scientific papers but I do hope that everyone can have an appreciation for the scientific method and its application. 😊

It's been just over a year I first got on a road bike, so to do a 2:42 90km bike split, as well as taking an hour off my 70.3 PR, sent me over the moon.

Still one of the best RAW VEGAN DESSERTS I ever invented ☝️bringing back the PARFAIT 🍨 Layers of raw vegan rich chocolate ganache between blankets of pungent sweet turmeric cream, and pistachio coconut soil, mixed with coconut sugar encrusted cacao nibs, oh and topped with little delicate chai spice cookie dough balls and pops of sweet fresh pomegranate 💛 hallelujah! 🙏🏼

Today was a really rough day for me. Life through some serious punches and that shit knocked me down, hard. Got hit with some terribly sad news and honestly didn’t know how to deal with it at first. I tried distracting myself and busying myself away from the issue so I wouldn’t think about it. Then I caught myself going down that old road and decided to wholeheartedly feel it and sit with it. I cried. I prayed. I questioned. I got kissed off. I accepted it. And now I’m just here, processing & feeling into it and allowing myself the grace to be with whatever comes up. No fear. No angst. Just, BE.

I’ve learned that ignoring and repressing emotions only means they’re going to arise 10x stronger at an unwanted time in the future, & that’s never good. So now, when these real emotions come up I sit with them and feel into them. The longer I do this the less they impact me and the faster they go away.

It’s our tendency to ignore these scary, sad, dark & depressing emotions because they make us feel vulnerable and out of control, but really that’s the process we’re supposed to go through. These real emotions simply have to run their course, & whether that takes a few days or decades is completely up to you. Choose wisely.

(Deutsch ⬇️) Just woke up for my morning run and I am already dreaming again - of this bowl of nicecream 😍 gonna make something like this after my workout! (Its raspberry-nicecream btw - just frozen bananas, frozen raspberries and a little coconut milk). If you work out in the morning, do you eat before or after? If you are looking to eat more of a plant-based diet, let me remind you that it is so insanely easy to whip up a meal!🙌🏻 When we start to cut out the animal products we often have an overwhelming feeling of “what the heck can I eat?” - Well let me tell you, there are plenty of incredible foods you can still eat that will leave you feeling so good after each meal!✨I have found that a good way to start is by experimenting with a few of your favourite veggies in a stir-fry, or even simply by roasting them! Choose 3-4 of your favourite vegetables, a dark leafy green, then add in a tin of chickpeas and you are done!😍 If stir frying, add all of the ingredients to the pan, and if roasting, add your roasted veg and chickpeas to a bed of fresh or wilted greens.🌱 Don’t forget to spice your meal up with your favourite spice blends! Which would you want to try first?🍽️

🌿Easily one of my favorite dinners is just roasted potato "chips" (sprinkle with pepper, pink salt and garlic powder and roast at 440 for about 35 min) with homemade guacamole (avo, cilantro, lemon juice, garlic powder, pink salt, pepper, and kale sprouts) and butter lettuce! I either dip the potatoes and lettuce in the guac or wrap the potatoes and guac in the lettuce for a little lettuce roll-up! This meal is sooo easy and filling and did I mention delicious?! I might go back for seconds 😜 that's the great thing, (well one of about a billion great things) about eating plant based is it's about ABUNDANCE, not restrictions! Eat an abundance of beautiful, vibrant life-giving plant foods and stop eating innocent animals and their secretions, and watch your life change for the amazing!! How to wake-up without the stress and to make mornings more serene and enjoyable: .

. –Wake up to music rather than an alarm. If you have a song that energizes and inspires you, set that as your alarm. I currently love La La Land soundtrack 😊 .

. –Don’t get up right away. While breathing deeply, stretch your limbs from your fingers to your toes. .

. –Think of the most positive thing you’ll be doing that day. Think of 3 things that you are grateful for. .
.
. -If you have a private yard, patio or balcony, and the sun is out, step outside for a minute or two. Sunshine is one of the strongest ways to tell your body to wake up. .
.
. –Do 5 minutes of easy activity. Anything that feels good. I love stretching, so either a few sun salutations or a quick yoga sequence feels great. .
.
. –Drink plenty of liquids throughout the morning. I usually start with lemon water, then chlorella-spirulina cocktail and continue with herbal tea the rest of the morning. Some days I’ll also have Yerba Mate if I feel like I need extra energy.

I am not sure if I want to use the known label for this new lifestyle because I feel like I am still getting there. I am not sure where this journey may take me. What I am sure of is the fact that this is something that just happened one day - I didn't forced myself into it. There's divine intervention that came into play, I must admit. With all humility and respect, I know this is something bigger than myself. 🌿

I have been blogging for ten years and I admit there are so many bumps along the way. Combating writer's block is not a walk in the park. Having to fit in is the worse, it feels like first day in high school all over again. These days however, I may have found a new source of inspiration but I am not getting ahead of my self here. It just feels good and right this time. And I guess that's what's important. 💚

This pesto sauce I made from scratch will soon appear on my blog and I am super stoked about it. It made me realize that indeed, plant based whole foods are not just meant to nourish the body - it can also nourish the soul 🌱

Completed today’s Charity Challenge (egregiously long single-effort wall sit + 8-count body builders) and then hit up a solid 3-hour ruck training session down in Seabrook with my @houstonruckingclub folks. The training sessions are geared to prepare you for rucking events (specifically GoRuck but there is a lot of crossover DNA). Today I learned quite a bit. I’m happy to have such great people mentoring me on my endurance journey — I picked up a ruck for the first time in January. The community’s been phenomenal and the training has so many other real-life applications. Thanks to Duffy for his mentoring and leadership, and to Jose for pushing through our respective challenges together. I came home totally soaked with sweat (means work got did!).

Made this pretty dope self portrait the other day :) Photography has always been one of my hobbies, andi think its such a pity how i am sucked into the "watching youtube videos and not actually doing anything" time, instead of doing what i love.

So the other day i forced myself to practice my hobbies, i took pictures on my phone, played the piano, and hopefully I'll continue to do creative things.

I'm going to jump on the trampoline more, draw and paint more, and do everything i love more! Cause thats what lifes about :) So i dare you to go out today and do something you love, or a hobby you haven't done in a while, or try out somethjng new! You'll never know what you'll love!

It’s like Vegan Paradise🌱 The Reuben is hands down my favorite thing on this menu!!! It’s crunchy, crispy, gooey and saucy 🙌🏽 Seriously not missing the meat.
