Forever inspired by Matisse and pondering what makes a ‘Master’ . I believe it’s originality, style and most importantly, timelessness. I was told recently by a buyer of a luxury store that consumers today are more willing to spend money on an expensive handbag than jewellery and since then I’ve been wondering at our desire to be on trend; fuelling fast fashion and consuming items that will only be used for a season or two. What happened to timelessness? A lot of consumers are seeking high quality ethically sourced products, but in the luxury goods market why is fine Jewellery being left behind? It holds its value, it supports craftsmanship, it lasts generations (the recent #RoyalWedding is a fine example of this) and can be easily repurposed or recycled. Is Jewellery seen as too sentimental and not suitable for everyday life? Why is jewellery less celebrated and desired than clothes, shoes and bags? I’d love to know your thoughts!
