Hamstring strains are one of the most frequent injuries in sport. Hamstring injuries make up 12-16% of all injuries.
Some of the main factors of hamstring injuries are decreased flexibility, strength deficits and muscle fatigue.
There’s videos are several progressions you can use to strengthen the hamstring muscles to help reduce the chance of injury.
If you have a previous or current hamstring strain I’d advice you see a sports therapist or physiotherapist before attempting any hamstring exercises to make sure further harm is not done.

Continuing to work on ankle dorsiflexion today with Isabelle and Anne. Simple moves like this one improve balance and proprioception, both of which tend to diminish as we age. Today, Isabelle (age 89), progressed to unsupported air squats on the balance pad. Anne (age 67), progressed to a supported, single leg hip hinge on the balance pad. Good ankle flexion is crucial for maintaining functional strength in the lower body - at ANY age.

Red light district is near. Walking, walking and walking on the streets ....on the wonderful streets. I love you Amsterdam. Перебралась поближе к кварталу красных фонарей. Даже больше...Я там была, видела девушек за окном или за прозрачной дверью, которые занимаются легальной проституцией. Фотографировать девушек нельзя, так как они могут разозлиться и выбросить телефон в канал или разбить его об асфальт. Расходы никто не возместит. Дадут еще штраф 300 евро. А вообще на улочках не только там, где красные фонари, очень круто. Я сидела на небольшом чердачке возле паба, пила сок рядом с голландской парой и наблюдала. Люди могут просто так пообщаться, даже если они видят друг друга в первый и в последний раз. Никто никого не смущает. Никто никого не осуждает. Все очень разные. Даже, если человек один, то он найдет себе компанию. Найдет с кем познакомиться или найдет с кем поговорить...если нужно. Атмосфера праздника. Даже в более тихих местах чувствуешь себя безопасно. Здесь очень и очень круто. Жаль, что в час ночи мы уезжали и к тому же очень сильно устали. Monday's Hump day! 🍑🐫

This year's main focus is my posterior chain and of course seeing how much I add onto quads.. 🤗

Leg Day was one of the best I've had in ages and they should only get better now with a set routine and being happy in my new job.. Less stress, more success! 😂

Weight has been up and down after a stomach bug a few weeks sorting out life.. Up 4/5kg since my last comp in May, but tracking measurements and strength I'm reallllly happy with progress.. 2.5cm on each quad in a month 💪😍

Master this to improve your Deadlift and RDL.
-
The Hinge is a movement pattern that involves the use of the Hip Joint (the head of the femur) with minimum movement elsewhere.
-
Too many people round through their Spine when performing Deadlifts, RDL’s and KB Swings because they don’t know how to separate Spinal movement from Hip movement.
-
The Hinge is primarily a movement on a horizontal plane (backwards and forwards) not a vertical one (up and down).
-
If you’re holding a BB or DB the only reason it goes towards the floor is because your Hip (read ass) goes backwards.
-
Using a plate can help you resist the urge to round your  spine by encouraging it to happen.
-
This is called feeding the mistake and is the same principle behind the use of mini bands in a Squat.
-
The band pulls the knees together which increases sensory awareness of the problem.
-
This increased awareness allows the client to address the issue rather than remain ignorant of it.
-
This is my third favourite fix for any client struggling with a Hinge movement.
-
It’s almost never an issue of tightness, it’s an issue of technique and this is technique practice.
-
In the long run it can make all the difference to your technique in the Deadlift, RDL and KB Swing family of movements.

Glare wasn’t as bad as I thought so here we go. Yesterday I kept it simple with 3 moves: rdls, banded hip thrusts superset w/ abductions and hamstring focused leg press(not filmed). I also was proud of myself for doing rdls with 70lbs. New high for me😁 oh also both of these are sped up but should be done slowly to really engage the muscles.
Ps. I decided not to embarrass myself and crop the video but honestly the hardest part was getting the stupid dumbbell on my lap for the hip thrusts🙄

All our athletes go from the blocks after they developed enough posterior chain strength through #complex, #RDL’s and #Squats . Deficit Romanian deadlifts (RDLs) by the old dawg. Videos of OD are purely for demonstration purposes and to explain the benefits of a particular lift/exercise.
For combat sport athletes in particular boxers research indicates a punch starts from force development in the lower body. The lower-body needs to be strong to transfer this energy to the hips, through the core and to the fist to deliver forceful punches. This is what we call the kinetic chain.

In data analysis, there is strong relationships between jump height and medicine ball throw distance. This suggests the higher you can jump, the harder you can punch.

The ability to jump is reliant on the amount of impulse produced from the lower body. This means that lower body strength training can have a huge impact on a boxers punch force.

Additionally, the ability to produce force in the lower-body is important to run at high speeds during your conditioning. The faster you can run, the more strain you can put your muscular and cardiovascular system to improve fitness.

One of the main moves to develop lower-body strength and speed is THE ROMANIAN DEADLIFT!!! Benefits of the Romanian Deadlift
1. Developed  the posterior chain, this is important to improve function of glutes and hamstrings, as well as strengthening the lower back and core. This is important for athletes as the posterior chain is not strengthened through traditional boxing methods, therefore the Romanian deadlift can also reduce the likelihood of injury. 
2. Movement assessments show that boxers are quad-dominant athletes and find it difficult to hinge at the hips, this means that the glutes can become under-active. . Romanian deadlift is a great tool to learn the hip-hinge pattern. Promotes a forceful hip extension, which important transferring force generated from floor to the hips and through to the core.

I prefer a kettlebell over a dumbbell, but you can do this exercise with any type of weight! The second video shown is a nice variation if the bottom of the RDL is a challenging position for you or your client/patient. You can really focus in on maintaining balance while you repeatedly perform the hand off. I even have my older patients that are fall risk perform this exercise, the benefits are outstanding!

B STANCE ROMANIAN DEADLIFTS
.
Also known as ‘Staggered Stance RDLs’, these are a great progression towards, or even alternative to, unilateral/single leg RDLs.
.
Since there’s still some contact with the non-working leg, there’s much less of the balance component that unilateral RDLs require while still reaping the benefits of more traditional single leg variations.
.
Main coaching points:
- whole or mid-foot pressure on working leg
- feet width at around hip width
- individual preference for how far back to place the foot on the non-working leg as long as it’s far enough to have the knee bent while still hinging at the hip

If you struggle to get good form with your RDL’s, re-asses your form and learn how to go through the movement correctly. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Here I have my client Steven learning how to go through the RDL movement pattern for the first time. In this video we are using a mini barbell, this can also be done at home using broomstick.

Remember this exercise is a (hip hinge) movement not a squat movement.
Key points to remember:
* Place your feet hip width with toes slight pointing out * Have your (broomstick) as an example < behind your back, one hand holding at the top and the opposite at the bottom
* Begin by pulling your hips as far back as you can with a slight bend at the knee’s * Make sure you maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement. You will notice if your rounding your back as soon as the broomstick comes off at the bottom of your back. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Romanian deadlifts are one of my favorite lower body exercises because they target your hamstrings, glutes and even your lats (the large muscle on your back behind your arms) when performed correctly.
.
Start with your feet hip width apart. Carefully pick the bar up, bending at the knees and NOT using your lower back (this is easier if you can place it directly in a squat rack). Your grip should be right on the outside of your legs.
.
Before you lower the weight, keep your shoulders retracted, like you’re trying to hold something in place between your shoulder blades.
.
Begin by lowering the weight, keeping a soft bend at the knees and hinging at the hips (slide your hips straight back, not down). Make sure you keep the bar gliding against your quads the entire time.
Keep your neck neutral - try not to watch yourself in the mirror while doing these and instead stare at something about a foot in front of you the entire movement.
.
As soon as you start to feel a pull in your hamstrings, squeeze your glutes and glide the bar back up. Remember to keep your shoulders back and retracted during the entire movement.
.
There’s a LOT of things to think about with big lifts like this - if you’re brand new to lifting or exercising, do 2-3 sets of 10 without using any weight and practice by using something light, like a pvc pipe, until you can perform these with each of those tips in mind!

“Whether you are a complete newbie to strength and conditioning or a stud who performs the Romanian Deadlift (RDL) regularly, this foolproof step-by-step guide will show you how to scale up the single leg RDL!
.
1️⃣ Before even thinking about performing a single leg RDL, you must first learn how to hip hinge properly. There are many ways to learn how to hip hinge, but two of the most common involve decreasing the degrees of freedom (left video) or using reactive neuromuscular training (both videos).
.
2️⃣ The hardest aspect of the single leg RDL is the requisite motor control and hip and ankle stability that is required to pull it off. To groove this new motor pattern, try the two modifications shown in the video. Start with the modification on the right, as there are fewer moving parts to focus on. Next, progress to the variation on the left where the back leg is actually moving.

3️⃣ The landmine RDL is the perfect next progression, as it is the same movement as the single leg RDL, albeit with more stability derived from the barbell being attached to the ground.

4️⃣ One of the hardest aspects of the single leg RDL is hip control, particularly of the back hip as it goes into extension during the descent phase of the exercise. To fix this, a cue I like to use first is to tell the client to “keep the back foot pointed down towards their stance leg.” A second manual cue can be accomplished using foam roller.”
