i’ve continued to work on the organization of my old voice memos. i’ve collected over forty that all contain parts of songs that may very well find their way onto the album. at the moment, the lineup is penniless whispering, ragged man, i am not like i was, where have i gone, scarlet river (a walk in the woods), the fields, i will go, etched into glass, old fear, and nobody looks my way. i hope that i’m not forced to change the lineup. quite a few of the voice memos are from when i was working of ‘for there is love all around you,’ and some of them are older than that. unfortunately, what i’ve realized is that i seem to be stuck in a pattern of writing darker sounding songs (in relation to the chords). that typically isn’t a problem, but for this record, i want ninety percent of the songs to sound more cheerful. more major sounding. this has forced me to look into my library of unused material for the bases of these songs. however, i’m still able to write the more personal and cheerful lyrics, so i’ll be able to pair those with the music. though, i seem to also be having a bit of trouble with attributing melodies to most of the songs. what i can do (and i rarely do this) is loop a recording of the chords and work out a melody on a secondary instrument, and then fit the lyrics into that. that might work. i don’t know. maybe not. this album will be part of my ‘woodland’ collection. i’ve decided that my music will be separated into collections. there’s city, hollows, depths, etc. anyway, i hope that i can make some real progress on this.
I seem to have a bit of a case of writer’s block, but that’s pretty natural for me. I’m trying to make these songs, but they’re a bit fragmented at the moment. I don’t know, I want this to be good, i’m just a little lost at the moment. I’ll find my way. Thank you for listening.
