This is what my first ever YouTube live stream looked like. The setup. Playstation Camera + Playstation 4 + Basic Headset Mic. My "gaming chair" was my bed, and I just chatted using the laptop.
Don't ever limit yourself based on a budget or your equipment. There were 88 concurrent viewers in the stream, over 700 chat comments. I almost didn't broadcast (and I waited to start so long) because I had seen other streamers with very professional setups and I thought my basic setup wasn't cool enough. (My hands and voice were shaking the whole first month by the way)
Once my budget allowed I added a lot of new equipment and functionality. I do intro videos, special overlays, mid-stream bits, shirt giveaways and more. Yet, I haven't reached 88 viewers ever again with all my fancy equipment. (my max was around 300 back in the glory days of re7demo but with the PS cam). Professional look helps you gain subscribers and fans, BUT it is not essential. Start small & slowly improve your skills and equipment as free time & $ allows, and use your personality, you can't upgrade that and its already professional.
As the connect 4 slogan will tell you...GO FOR IT! and as Jimmy Eat World says...BE YOURSELF!
