Pictures don’t really do it justice, so videos may help. I even left in my commentary... y’all will hear my voice (and heavy breathing).
Until you are hanging on by your fingertips, adrenaline racing and heart pumping, this is all I can offer of my experience. By far the most challenged on a hike... No doubt it was fun and exciting, but sure puts life into perspective.
This challenge started for me when I turned on to a dirt road (with washouts) in my rental mini suv, and had to drive 18 miles to the trail head. 18 miles people, dirt road. Google told me I had over an hour to go. In the back of my mind, every bad hiking thought came to the surface. You don’t know where your going, you could get a flat, you’re a woman alone in the wilderness, you’re going to get stranded out here and on and on. It was still dark outside and I am off-roading into the mountains. This trail was literally in the middle of nowhere! It ended up being over 20 miles into a 28 mile long dirt road before I reached the parking area, up and down, switchbacks galore! When I get to the trailhead, it’s 35 degrees outside and frost covers a lot of the ground. So, I take off on the trail and I am thinking about bears, mountain lions, snakes and the random scary camper guy the I passed along the way. Needless to say, my anxiety and crazy thoughts almost ruined the experience.
I just pushed forward, and did it anyway. I was not about to let my stupid fears get the best of me. I prayed a little, amazed at God’s creation and mostly was filled with peace. There were some sketchy moments on those rock faces, ain’t gonna lie. In the end though, I reached the peak and it was worth it.
Sometimes, there’s that voice in our heads, beating us up, trying to keep us from reaching our full potential. Most of the time, it’s a load of crap. I am not saying to do stupid things and be unsafe, I am saying do things anyway, safely, despite the fear. It is rewarding and empowering. #thankyouJesus #livelikelegends #brownspeak #tontonationalforest #hiking #takeahike #fears #rockclimbing #tothetop #yikes #floridagirlinthemointains #altitude #arizona #bestrong #behappy #behealthy
