Not only is Rocky one of the most inspiring films of all time, the story behind how it developed is more inspiring to me.
Sylvester Stallone was that struggling actor, living in poverty. In order to make ends meet, he had to do the unimaginable and sell his best friend, a bull mastiff dog, for $25
Inspired by a Muhammad Ali fight, he began to write a 90 page Rocky script, which he finished in just 3 days. He pitched the idea to producers, and they were impressed. They offered him hundreds of thousands of dollars, but under one condition: he couldn’t star in the movie. Sylvester turned down the offer. After a few failed attempts, the producers finally agreed, but at a much lower deal of $35,000.
With that money, Sylvester went on a mission to track down his dog. He waited in front of a liquor store for 3 days, finally running into the man who bought his dog. He offered $100, $500, up to $1,000 with the man refusing each time. $15,000 later, Stallone was finally reunited with his best friend. The movie Rocky would go on to make over 200 million
Haven’t checked the authenticity of the story, so shoot the messenger if you’d like
