Last weekend we had a nice lady stop by and share her story with us - she is a personal chef that travels all over and she is considering moving to Maine, inspired by our food culture and the abundance of fresh, high quality food available year round! When I expressed some surprise at her interpretation of our food availability, she explained that she is from Hawaii, where it is very difficult to get (some) fresh produce because it has to be shipped from the mainland. She told me a green pepper costs them $12. One green pepper! She was buying all of our dried herbs, the whole lot. When I asked her why she said that she makes her own seasonings and it's very hard to find dried herbs that have good flavor. One sniff of our Sweet Basil and she was hooked. Well, Monday she came back and bought everything I had restocked in the store! But don't worry, there are more herbs being added to the store, both fresh and dried - Sweet Basil, Sage, Marjoram, Thyme and Mint. Thanks for the love!
