Machu Picchu, Peru
Since Machu Picchu was a point of fascination for many, sharing another one of the ruins itself. They look miniature because we were on top of Montaña, the Machu Picchu mountain.
We didn't do the Inca or Salkantay treks to visit Machu Picchu. Climbing Montaña was our small compensation for missing out on these famous treks in South America.
It's a decently steep climb, but what views at the top! This miniature Machu Picchu is just one of the rewards. You get a 360° view of the Andes stretched out on one end and the Amazon forest just a couple of mountains away. From this vantage point you get a fair idea of why Machu Picchu stayed hidden from the Spanish.
Oh, and the topic of the fight we had at the top - to remove the sun glasses for a picture or not! Yes, travel has given us the privilege to travel at some outstanding locations!
Tomorrow we'll get back to the #HimalayasOrAndes posts. The poll's going quite cut to cut so far!
